Pre-draft contacts (2011)

Re: Patriots Player Contact Page

We often look closest to Gillette visits, but I recall from last year that Aaron Hernandez was the only guy who visited and was drafted. Going from memory, but I remember being sort of surprised at that.

Deaderick, too.

I don't see Stephen Paea on that list of Oregon State; is it safe to assume that there is no way he will be drafted by the Patriots? Or do they do super-stealth picks?

It is what it is. The fact he's not on the list is neither here nor there. Could we not be interested in him at all? Quite possibly. Then again, we had no link to the Gronk in the build up to the Draft last year either. No reported interest, workouts etc - it turns out he actually had a Visit, which no-one ever picked up on.

Nothing is ruled in or out at this stage.

V - Official Pre-Draft visit; visited team facilities/hosted by team in area
PW - Private workout held with prospect
AW - Attended open workout on Campus
C - Position Coach or Coordinator contact
MC - Team has spoken to player or agent or had on-Campus visit; miscellaneous contact
APD - Team official has attended Pro-Day
I - Interviewed at Combine/All-Star game
RI - Rumoured interest

NB: All players in larger font, and Bold, Italic and Underline, have met the "Three Contact Rule". To meet the TCR, a prospect must have three confirmed contacts (RI does not count). The TCR implies that the Patriots are very very interested in them, and there's a very good chance we'll draft them. Don't take it for granted though.

Some thoughts on the numbers.

Firstly - well down on last year at this point. Remember though, we're listed interest that's been reported. To go all Donald Rumsfeld for a moment - we're listing the known knowns, we know there are known unknowns, and unknown knowns, as for the unknown unknowns - they'll just have to wait for now.

Last year we listed 178 players, and managed to (somehow) hear about 34 visits. With 2 more unreported. The limit is only 30!

I really appreciate these regular consolidated updates. Thank you!

Nice to have the summary, too, BTW. Trying not to read too much into the apparent decline in reported contacts, but I was thinking that perhaps, with fewer employees (players, esp.) around the facilities and coaches during the lockout, there may simply be fewer "sources" for reports.

Will Rackley should read PW x 2, V as an additional TCR prospect.

You are indeed correct - I knew I was missing one today when I was updating!

X 2? Where's your source for Rackley, as I didn't see the x 2 added in this thread? Serious interest in him as I'm finalizing my sleepers list. Thanks.

Tough kid - did really well at the NFL combine with what they thought was the flu.... a couple days later we were interviewed him - after which he checked himself into the hospital with severe appendicitis.

High pain threshold I guess.

That right there could be enough for us to make him a late-round pick. IIRC, Deaderick took a bullet in the thigh his senior season and didn't miss a game.

Before you know it, we'll be picking up an LB who broke his skull falling down a flight of stairs and then tested his recovery progress by banging his head into the wall repeatedly!

;) Yeah, right. As if THAT would ever happen.
