I agree the Pats still have a chance at getting a bye going into the playoffs. Is that scenario likely to happen? I don't think so. The Jekyl and Hyde defense is scary and will probably be exposed in the playoffs. In the past, the Pats could come up with a big play on defense or a TD to break open a close game but that has not always been the case this year. I was shocked when BB didn't go after defensive players early in the draft (like a run stuffing DT or a quick LB). Shelton is obviously not the answer to the first draft need. Injuries have also hurt. I would love to have had Hill available for runs up the gut in the red zone, where there is no one now. Also, losing Bentley hurt a lot more than I thought it would. Hightower is slowing down and the pass rush has become a joke, and will get even worse if BB can't re sign Flowers. There are so many holes that retooling will probably be a multi-year task. We Pats fans should be thankful for the long streak of excellence produced by the team but there may be a few lean years before the Pats get back to the SB and, when they do, there will probably be a new QB and head coach.
