Re: Poll: Your State of Mind At This Point Of the Season

I want my teams to peak in the post season. It doesn't worry me that the Pats aren't peaking in Week 5.

Re: Poll: Your State of Mind At This Point Of the Season

Throw me into the "Somewhat Worried" catagory. This team has some glaring flaws about it. The QB play with a rusty Brady whose timing is way off on some plays. The big injury on the O-Line and a rookie starting LT now. And the play calling which was way too vanilla yesterday.

However, I have faith in this team and I fully expect these flaws to be fixed. It's good that we're not playing our best football right now. The championship teams play their best football at the end of the season. If we can fix these flaws in the soft point of our schedule and get Brady back on track (he's made steady progressions each week), this team will be deadly.

A quick bump before I close it down and archive it

Re: Poll: Your State of Mind At This Point Of the Season

we'd be 5-0 but in our two losses we had bad second halves. once we consistently put together 60 minutes of football we'll be on track

Re: Poll: Your State of Mind At This Point Of the Season

I voted not worried at all, but I'm on my way to being somewhat worried.

Re: Poll: Your State of Mind At This Point Of the Season

Tied for the division lead after 5 games, all the while not playing or managing the games particularly well. We can only get better, while the Jets and their big ball of pudding coach can only self destruct.

Re: Poll: Your State of Mind At This Point Of the Season

I've written the season off completely, it's clear this team misses Matt Cassel and is going nowhere with that second rater off the bench.

Re: Poll: Your State of Mind At This Point Of the Season

I'd have to admit that I'm somewhat worried. Actually worried is a bad word really. I have some concerns I suppose.

Basically I want to see Tom Brady connect with a couple of long bombs so that we know he is not overthrowing the ball. I expect it will happen but the sooner the better.
I also would like to see us getting more variety into our offense so that we are not so predictable. The playcalling is my biggest concern.
And defensively I'd like to see some more aggressive playcalls from time to time.

Re: Poll: Your State of Mind At This Point Of the Season

I'm somewhat worried just because nothing is ever a given and I haven't seen Brady play this bad for a long while (I'm not counting portions of 2006 because he simply had nothing to work with).

But my gut still says he will be fine and we are going to be a strong championship contender by the time December rolls around. Still, there is an uneasiness.

Re: Poll: Your State of Mind At This Point Of the Season

I seen all the movie stars in their fancy cars and their limousines,
Been high in the Rockies under the evergreens,
But I know what I'm needing and I don't want to waste more time-
I'm in a kick-ass state of mind.

so basically you aren't counting last year and 2006? thus you are only counting 2007 as recent when he was in the zone.

Last year as in a dozen or so pass attempts?

Bottom line is we are still tied for first in the division, there is a lot of football to play, and they're going to be fine.

somewhat worried...I envision the pats losing three more (indy, NO, and miami) which will put us at 11-5. That SHOULD get us into the playoffs but...we know how that ended last year

however we should be fine

Somewhat worried.
Despite all the changes on D, the Pats seem to still be playing the soft, bend-don't break schemes that drive me nuts.
The offense still frustrates me. Inconsistent running game, followed by a predictable passing game.

However, I'd say 3-2 isn't that bad all things considered.
I still don't know what to make of a performance against Buffalo that deserved a loss, but escaped with a win.
In the 2 losses, I look at the fact that the Pats had serious room for improvement in several areas of those games, while the teams they played seemed to play very well.

Re: Poll: Your State of Mind At This Point Of the Season

I'm somewhat worried.

Coming off the Baltimore game, I was excited about our young defense. They showed a lot of speed and aggressiveness and forced the play. Giving up 14 points against a well balance Baltimore attack who had a very good QB and a seasoned OC (Cam Cameron), I thought, well, it can only get better from here.

But then against the Broncos, we became extremely passive and played soft zone.

The past two weeks showed me two things:
1. We have the speed and the ability to be a more aggressive defense.
2. We may have the personnel to become a really good defensive unit, but if our coaches don't take advantage of our speed and play soft zones, what we saw against the Broncos might be an issue all year long.

As for our offense, I attribute our struggles to Brady. If Brady hits open receivers, it opens up our playbook. It's all about Brady and that's the reason why I'm not as worried. I believe Brady will get it together sooner or later.

Put me in the cautiously optimistic... have to pull it all together soon.

Re: Poll: Your State of Mind At This Point Of the Season

Playoffs looking good. 2nd half issues are more offensive related than defensive, as the D is getting no help from the O in the 2nd half. I like the D this year, forcing fumbles, good pursuit, playing well even in the L's. TB gets it going with receivers the rest of the way.

+1

I picked not worried at all because we have seen this before with the Pats. 2003 started with a 3-2 record. 2001 was a messy start.

I think we suffer from impossible standards amoung a lot of the casual fanbase more than anything else. Luckily, we still have a very well rounded football team that needs to get into midseason form.

I think Brady is playing solid football at a high level. He just has not reached midseason form and his WRs need to remember their routes. He has missed a few throws more than he did in 2007, but what are we expecting from him in the first month?

I think you misunderstood what I was getting at. I'm just saying I haven't seen him play this bad since early part of 2003, maybe before.

Of course I wouldn't count last year, there's nothing to go off of.

I am not worried at this time. It is still early. Our schedule is not that difficult (although "On Any Sunday"), and I only see difficult games against NO, Indy and maybe one more "oops" game.

IMHO, this years start is similar to '03. Big shake up in personnel, a few stumbles out of the gate and then, hopefully getting into gear for a long run.
