just one game and a preseason one at that.....

the pats lost 31-0 week 1 of the regular season one year and then proceeded to go 17-1 and win the SB........

its just all so irrelevant unless it starts happening repeatedly in the regular season

Well the sky isn't falling, but I'd say I just still have the same concerns with the team that the Jets/Ravens/Giants exposed.

I had a bit of concern watching the game, but afterwards was able to remind myself it's the preseason. I don't like watching our OL get pushed around like that and seeing Brady off-target due to pressure (way too much a reminder of previous playoff loses). But I have to believe BB will plan against those issues.

Just pre season. The 2004 SB Champ starters got abused by the Bengals in pre-season.

What DOES concern me is that Wilfork and Mayo as notable exceptions, most every tough "football player" type persona on the Patriots weighs under 195 LBS. The team could use more 300LB guys with unstopable attitude.

While I'm somewhat concerned, it wasn't caused by the Lions game. I've been concerned for a while about Brady when he faces pressured. Not only does he get happy feet, but his throws seem to be way off. He also seems to become passive and not as into the game. I'm also very concerned about Connolly at RG. To lesser extent, Koppen is a minor worry.

Somewhere between the first and the second option. It's just the preseason, but it did highlight the very real issue of having no depth along the interior of the line. Ideally, Connolly should be the backup, and there should be someone better starting.

Somewhat. Willing to take "wait and see approach".

If the OL gets its act together (as I think they will) and the D was just "trying things" and returns to an aggressive style (as I hope) the Lions game will be forgotten quite quickly.

When teams have rushed five or more players against Brady this season, he has averaged 8.2 yards per attempt and compiled a 101.3 quarterback rating — numbers very similar to his statistics when teams don’t blitz. When teams rush six or more players, Brady’s quarterback rating rises to 153.8, and he’s thrown for 330 yards on just 25 pass attempts for a lofty 13.2 average.

I'm slightly concerned over the Oline depth. Additionally I feel some of my pre-existing concerns about the secondary were not helped by this game.

But I have only those two concerns from this. Otherwise we just looked like we were trying some plays for practice purposes that were not well suited to what we were facing.

Furthur reflection: I'm concerned that BB has yet to fix the strong pressure up the middle disripting his QB that we first saw at the end of 2007 and a few DCs with the right talent mix have continued to exploit. Drafting a successor to Koppen next April doesn't help this year. I only hope that there's a Joe Andruzzi type castoff reclamaition project this Saturday that BB can put at RG this season.

Andre Gurode has been cut i believe

No more or less concerned than I was prior to the game.

if it makes anyone feel better, I attended the Thanksgiving game and heard the same things at halftime. We seem to forget that that blowout had a very similiar first half.

Ridley and Vereen will negate the vast majority of these ails. So my concern is getting them on the field.

Also, Faulk would help in this respect.

Not concerned at all, if this is all they have to worry about heading into the season they are in great shape. They need help at Guard, and with approximately 1,500 players about to be cut i really think Belichik can find enough help at guard to go into the season and make it through it with no real problem. If they can''t then move light to RG and start Solder from game 1.

The real problem with their losses over the past few years has been intensity in my opinion. In the games they lost the opponent was playing faster than them from the first snap and they were never able to turn it on when those games started like that. They have to know going into every game that they have to play harder faster and better than their opponent and that you cannot beat a team on execution if they are playing harder than you. A lack of urgency seems to be the problem and we have to hope that their leaders can impart that sense of urgency to the entire team to win the games that matter the most. I think Brady and Belichik are on a mission and i think they get it done.

I would like to see Belichik give the team leaders the practice schedule for today and have them run it, because when the season is on the line that is who will have to get it done, it's out of the coaches hands at that point.

I understand it was just pre season, and I am sure the lions game is not remotely a good indicator of what we should expect from the Pats in the regular season.

What I took away from the game was complete dismay that the Pats weren't more committed to protecting the franchise.

To me it seemed that Brady was at risk of being unnecessarily hurt the entire time he was in. The Lions were committed to getting after the QB and were having good success doing so.

I am not a good football analyst or mind, so I am not sure what all the Pats could of done to help Brady, just saying considering what was at stake it seemed that Brady took unnec essary abuse.

JMHO

I do agree with you on the intensity issue. That said, I think a lot of the lack of intensity in those games comes from Brady.

I'm concerned. I don't want to keep losing the same way we ALWAYS keep losing at the end.

Facing the blitz is different from 4-man pressure. When teams are able to pressure Brady with just 4 guys, he has a lot more trouble... BUT, to be honest, so does every QB in the league. It's just a numbers game that no QB can win.

Of course, when Brady faces this kind of non-blitz pressure, he goes 12-22 with a TD and an INT... when a lesser QB like Josh Freeman (who still has talent) faces it, you get the Pats 2nd preseason game dominance. That's the difference between Brady and the next tier down. He struggles but can still produce in spurts. Others just get steamrolled.

The Jets, Ravens, Giants & Lions defenses that hit the QB hard are not optimal for Brady. He needs time in the pocket more than an Aaron Rodgers ( over 300 yards rushing each of the last two seasons ) or Ben Roethlisberger (who seems to throw better when flushed out of the pocket.)

Call me a homer, but I'd still take Brady over those two any day. However, they do have skill sets that are preferred against a strong pass rush defense.
