Polk and Baker are going to tear it up this year for the Patriots, says future HoF QB

Drake Maye is a great teammate and leader…..I’m sure they are good friends of his as well as teammates and he wants to see them succeed….I’ll be pleasantly surprised if either of them step it up significantly in year 2

While we are making Bold Predictions: I expect Pop and Boutte to breakout too.

Change my mind!

Polk & Baker might not "break out" but they should be better... they were rookies cutting their teeth with alex "no motion" van pelt and Jacoby Brissett, who's adjusted net yards per attempt was 3.92 yards... second worst in the league, nipping at the heels of Deshaun Watson, the worst in the league... they were the only two in the leauge under 4 yards...

We're supposed to take Maye's assessment as gospel? I'm sorry but I'm a tad skeptical. Have we heard anything from grilledcheesesandwich on this?

Meh…no one mentioned the full statement he made. Yes he said he expects one or both to be better but he also alluded to them needing to work harder being pro’s, learning where to line up, how to run routes, and even an interesting comment about rookies coming in having been paid NIL money and thinking that means anything in the NFL.

My take: both players need to put in serious work if they really want to be NFL players

Id love to have more faith but concerning that they showed nothing in the regular season. Def too early to give up though, both should have been red shirted. When boutte saw the field in early 23 he couldn’t even toe tap properly. Coaches realized he wasn’t ready and stuck him on the bench despite a truly pathetic wr set. If he was force fed it might’ve looked like polks year. But he had a good year 2. After that stretch with polk messing up the game winner vs mia then the Houston and jax games they should’ve sat him.

It could happen. He’s the QB for the job, but I think they suck. Both will be cut in camp. Change my mind!

Drake Maye reveals Patriots players expected to break out in 2025
I have more faith in Boutte than those 2. But really any of them still have a chance. The key will be who can grasp the Josh McDaniels offense. We've seen MANY, MANY wide receivers WASH OUT because they couldn't grasp the option route concepts and make the same reads as the QB. When you run the wrong route in that offense it can lead to interceptions. A tough task for any young receiver. Even veterans have failed to pick it up.

If even one of them (Polk or Baker) can become at least a solid #3 caliber NFL WR (or better yet, a solid #2), that would be an asset. But until either of those scenarios happen, this season will be crucial in determining what their potential (if any) will be. I know within the next 2 years Vrabel will obtain us through the Draft and/or FA, a legit young #1 WR, if not two of them. Just so long as we have a solid OL for Maye's 2nd season, combined with improved RB talent for a solid run-game and perhaps even a couple of good for just a season WR's who can get open and catch the ball to help develop Maye's potential as a passer, that'll be good enough for this coming season.

Snagging Alaric Jackson as our future and for several years LT, combined with adding young talent on the DL and Edge (and the Defense in general), which is where the best available young talent can be obtained in this years FA, and of course nailing this draft, will greatly aid in this rebuild and hopefully new and better team culture.

Polk definitely has talent and he’s a smart guy. I’m willing to be optimistic that his issues were coaching related and he will be at least worth a roster spot next year, basically as good as Boutte.

Baker, I’m really not holding my breath on, but he has the physical skills. Not going to entirely write him off, but if he struggled grasping the offense last year and it’ll be much harder this year then it’s hard to have a lot of hope there.

AVP struggled with the offense too..
