The man who might be the most competitive guy to play the game, witness the fact he's still playing at 45 years old, suddenly is going to be a mentor to some young college age kid, who no doubt will be full of himself? You're projecting. No way he mentors anyone. No way in hell. Too competitive. He's never done it before now, and if he does it now, he's knows for sure that he's mentoring his replacement. He only has 1 or 2 seasons left so he's got nothing to lose in mentoring a young quarterback now.
Can we get back to theSince we're seemingly going off the deep end today, doesn't Dante Scarnecchia have any kids or grandkids that could take over coaching the O-Line? That would be amazing.
Could very well be. I can't immediately recall what the Patriots were paying Josh, but I'm assuming O'Brien will be commanding a fairly decent cost in order to assume that role here. Can we get back to thefacttheory that BoB's people planted this with Schefty to drive up the cost?
And you have to figure he's not going to be penny pinched this time around.Could very well be. I can't immediately recall what the Patriots were paying Josh, but I'm assuming O'Brien will be commanding a fairly decent cost in order to assume that role here.
If they're losing Caley, it's going to make sense to do something to at least solidify that spot and hopefully start cultivating some guys moving forward. That cupboard has been stripped bare and this season is definitely a reminder that they need to make sure this never happens again. And you have to figure he's not going to be penny pinched this time around.
That’s why the Patriots have a built in advantage. Everybody knows BB is getting close to winding down. Coming in here and doing well for a couple of years would quite possibly turn into an audition for the top job when it opens up. BoB isn’t getting that from either of the other two named suitors, or at least not unless Josh gets tossed but that’s not as tidy a situation. In fact it’s a mess.Yes, I think it could be a lure (not saying it's definitively going to happen here), because you take that job thinking that the team's improvement from bringing in Brady ends up leading to you getting a head coaching gig after that year or two.
I like this idea better than the Patricia as BB successor idea. What I want: the Krafts and BB hire BOB as OC with the understanding he becomes HC the next season after BB breaks Shula's record. I think I'll write a letter to the Krafts to that effect.
Am I the minority who thinks we need a head coach late 30s early 40s to relate to the playes.I like this idea better than the Patricia as BB successor idea.
I’m ok with this too. I guess you can say I’m in the “Anyone but Patricia” club.Am I the minority who thinks we need a head coach late 30s early 40s to relate to the playes.
Doubt we tally 21 wins between now and end of next season. Pretty much only if we win this SB and next one.
Family considerations aside. Why would Bill 0’BRIEN accept the Patriots OC position if he had options? The Patriots job is a no win situation for him if his goal is to be a NFL HC again as soon as possible as one would suspect.Could very well be. Yeah disregard what I said, totally misread your post. Why are you saying only one season? Again, the idea is BOB is OC 'til Bill breaks the record then becomes HC. I'd assume that would take two or three years.
I would think he'd be here for at least two seasons, and it's a situation where he'd get credit if the Patriots suddenly started having success on offense. I doubt he'd be here much beyond that, unless there was a chance he'd have an opportunity to be a head coach. The goal - I would think - from there would also be to have him groom someone so they'd have some continuity if he ended up leaving.Family considerations aside. If Brady goes there and he only wants to do it for one season, I would agree. I don't think Brady has more than one more year in him after watching him this year...not without a stacked group around him.Vegas would be a better option.
I could see it, but Tannehill remains a big question mark and I don't know if I'd want to take that on.The Titans with Vrabel and O’Brien’s Houston OC, Tim Kelly, already on staff would be as well.
There's no competition at this point in Brady's career. This isn't 2016 anymore with Brady nowhere near the end of his career. Yeah at that stage of it he was singularly focused on being the only quarterback on the roster who mattered. Everyone including Brady himself knows he's only got 1 or 2 seasons left now. So he's not mentoring his replacement, like someone who's potentially taking snaps away from him, he's mentoring the next guy after he retires. I'm not saying he'll make it a priority but he's not going to feel threatened by a young quarterback at this stage. You're suggesting the leopard is going to change his spots at his age? Nonsense. Brady’s smart enough to know no NFL team plays anybody, even a star QB, who is playing like crap today just because they were good last year. He knows as soon as his skills decline enough for that kid to be a better bet to win games TB12 will be a backup. He’s not going to do anything to make that happen sooner than it inevitably will anyway. There's no competition at this point in Brady's career. Why would one suspect that his goal is to be a NFL HC as soon as possible, instead of his goal being to be an NFL HC with the best prospects of long term success and stability? For that matter, would immediately being HC of a doormat be more attractive than winning a Super Bowl as OC?Family considerations aside. If you’re Bill Belichick and you do not want Jones to have his 4th different OC in 2024 or Zappe to be on his 3rd OC in 3 seasons, why would you hire Bill O’Brien to be your OC in 2023 knowing he wants to be a HC sooner rather than later?
I just can’t imagine BOB, after serving a two years apprenticeship under Sabin, wants to spend 2-3 years as OC while Bill chases Moby Shula.
