A perfect excuse for going with another player more suited for the 3-4. I've read Wilmaah isn't very good at ILB in the 3-4. So now the big name lb can be replaced without much questioning from the media,and fans,fo etc.

I agree with your point that 3-4 and 4-3 can either be 1-gap or 2-gap, but sometimes the Pats shoot the gaps playing 1-gap. I don't know about the Jets, but they could whichever they wanted to.

Unless they don't. There is no law that they have to 2-gap. They can do it anyway they want.

I'm not saying the Pats NEVER 1-gap, they did that a lot in the Super Bowl against Philadelphia. But at their base, their basic philosophy is to 2-gap probably 90% of the time.

So do the Jets. And Vilma hasn't fit. That is Mangini's fault. You don't change your whole beliefs for him so either teach him or trade him. Mangini hasn't done so.

Now that Mangini has to deal with a DIFFERENT situation (different players, blah blah) he doesn't know the answers.

If that's true, do the Jets jettison him or some of their one-gap players (who are some of their best players)?

I think the crisis of confidence would dictate letting go of the guy who can't handle running the one-gap system and utilizing what they worked so hard to build.
