Wow: the Eagles defense was horrific. Huge swaths of open space. Hogan was like, wide open.

The Patriots defense can be criticized, BUT there was one guy out there who failed again and again and again, while many of the other players did their job.

& that guy was Eric Rowe.

Now, I know what the general wisdom about the game is, but I never went back and watched, and I get so wound up watching Super Bowls that my normal analysis goes out the window and I hardly ever remember the details from play-to-play, so I took the wisdom with just a grain fo salt.

I have to say: the general wisdom on this game was 100% right.

Erik Rowe effectively ended our 2019 season too and likely led to Brady and Patriot divorce.

    **** that guy.

Wish they had a CB2 who was better than Rowe in 2017.

I watched the Pats-Panthers Super Bowl replay the other night. What a great game. I knew Adam V kicked the game winner but forgot he missed his two previous kicks, a couple thirty-plus yarders.

Weird twist of fate : Brady was at his best and they fell short. A year later, the D was amazing and they won despite low scoring.

You're a bigger man than me.

I would rather slam my junk in a car door than watch that game again.

Oh yeah, NFW did Corey Clement make that TD catch. The NFL changed the rules for the game, whatever the hell that means. Guy is bobbling the ball as he stepped out of bounds. What a totally ludicrous joke. The exact same of what happened in the Bills game earlier that year when the Bils receiver bobbled it in the end zone as he stepped out of bounds. Ruled incomplete. The Super Bowl call was an Al "Baby Goodell" Riveron special.

Exactly. That type of reception (or, attempted reception) had been ruled incomplete all season. Not only did the league change the catch rules for that game without telling anyone, but Troy Vincent, a member of the Eagles hall of fame/ring of honor/whatever, was sitting with Riveron assisting with replay reviews. Can you imagine the outcry if the situation was reversed and it was James White making that catch and Tedy Bruschi was directly involved in the process of determining it was a TD?

There was no way the NFL was going to reverse that call after the national outcry after the Jesse James reversal a month or so earlier..Clement call was a terrible call... But let's not excuse the Patriots inability to stop ANYTHING that day. Might've been the worst defensive performance of the Brady/Belichick era...just can't believe the Graham sack...Pats get the ball back down 5 on other side of 2 minute warning w 75 yards to go - more than enough time... Brady knowing he needs a TD, knowing he's in 4 down territory rest of the game...with that much time they could you the use the whole field...so disappointing when I think of that sack...first play a good gain...then boom, game over

I didn't know that about Troy Vincent. Ridiculous.

Collinsworth and Michaels had a lot to say. Bet Goodell was not too happy with them.

    Why would you do this?

Couldn’t find any car doors to slam your hand in so you opted for the next best thing?

Kind of over it. It may of been one of the greatest performances ever by a player on the losing side. It’s rare you see a losing team get player get the mvp in sports but it has happened.

Go to my grave knowing that Butler could of made 1 3rd down stop. Just one is all they needed.

Yep, THE decision was very questionable and in top of that, not having Gilmore on jeffrey from the start also mind boggling.

In a game where even one more defensive stop would have probably changed the end result, have to say those errors did us in. Also yes the clement bobble ruled correctly takes at least 4 pts off for them.

Brady also threw a pick in the end zone which a TD would’ve blown the game wide open. That INT gave CAR life and they fed off of that momentum.

I remember their commentary and apart from the Eagles first TD they said each time Philly scored “this ones coming back” or “this is going to be overturned” only none of these were overturned and the touchdowns were allowed to stand.

I knew about the Troy Vincent issues from the day after.

This Super Bowl was egregiously refereed. One game the NFL should be ashamed of because it clearly was not fair.

Patriots beat themselves with such a poor defensive showing. But no Edelman and no Hightower those guys are difference makers on their side of the ball.

The Malcolm Butler debacle. Brandin Cooks being unaware and getting knocked out the game. Some terrible and far too cute play calling by Josh in the first half.

And yet they could have still won. And probably would have had the refs been fair.
