Peter King: Why NFL Should Give Back Picks to Pats (But Won’t)

Oh good, another thread about Kraft!

Well, ask yourself about the character of the people involved. Kraft is a businessman, and as a businessman he is interested in the bottom line most of all. But Goodell....is a snake, a douche, a liar, a sneak. He's underhanded. He looks right at you and deceives you. We know this is true of him - we've seen it time and time and time again.

So if you have to ask whether Goodell back-stabbed Kraft or Kraft is just throwing Goodell under the bus to save some face, which one makes more sense given what we know about each guy?

I hear you. I believe Bob. As I said earlier Bob doing the Crazy Ivan still bothers me as I do not think he is the type of guy to be so fickle with his convictions. Could have been Goody. Could have been a combo of Goody and key owners strong-arming Bob. Don't know..

Well, I don't have any hope of seeing the picks again. But ...

Now is the time to confront the last shreds of the case against the Pats. What was Jastremki's and McNally's evidence? What was Brady's? Why didn't the League make their side of the story public?

Also, what about an experiment to test the League's story? Give a guy a pin and ask him to take exactly 2 psi out of a bag of footballs in 100 seconds flat.

And now is the time to go for the back story. Who planned the "sting"? The leaks? What was their background and interest?

Taking down the League structure is my hope.

The problem is, King has no interest in doing anything that might damage the league, even if it means exposing dishonesty and corruption.

As far as the backstory goes, it sounds ridiculous, but King knows who fed him the false "11 of 12 balls" story. He doesn't need to do any digging there or try to find a second source to verify his suspicions. He has first hand knowledge. Someone from the NFL told him false information to make the Patriots look guilty. To me, the bigger story is that King refuses to do anything with this knowledge.

I don't care what you guys think about King, he's saying that the league should give back the picks that makes him A-Ok in my book.

You have King confused with Mortenson.

The NFL will never concede that they were wrong, Goodell is incapable of it.

never ever going to happen.

I still hesitate to condemn Kraft, especially since we lack full knowledge of the dynamics and politics of what goes on inside the NFL. We can only speculate. What little is known is sufficient to recognize that there is an acrimonious feeling of resentment against the Patriots, and in particular Belichick and Brady. As others here have indicated, Kraft is a businessman, and knows when to roll with the punches and when to jab. I suspect that he would rather lose Deflategate, than win and build up even more resentment. The consequences could be even worse than the team has already experienced, including amplifications of media bias, referee miscalls, inspections, drug tests, unfavorable scheduling, communication monitoring (legal and otherwise), draconian punishments and of course additional sting operations. As public sentiment slowly changes to accept that the punishments were harsh, then as long as they stand the internal resentment will gradually dissipate, and the nightmare scenario above will evaporate. Or at least that is what Kraft may be thinking. But this too is speculation, and I admit that I am too ignorant of the entirety of the situation to make a binary judgement.

Where I do feel that Kraft could have done more is with the Brady case. The Wellsreportincontext site is great for fans and supporters already convinced of team and individual innocence, but it does little to sway overall public opinion. It is a passive approach, where a proactive one is sorely needed. In particular Kraft should be publicly demanding that the NFL separates the issue of CBA authority, as featured in their appeal, from the the Deflategate case in general. Too many see the current court case as as a question of Brady's guilt or innocence, and that is the biggest travesty of all this misspent currency. Becker's Amicus Curia brief should be the vehicle for Kraft's unequivocal support and action to protect his greatest asset, TB12 and his legacy. Accept the fines and the lost draft picks, but agree there is no basis for the court case, IGL is a natural law and cannot be compromised. Some blood has been spilled, which should satisfy the jackals in the NFL, but the Patriots are strong enough to overcome the penalties.

Just win a few more Lombardis despite the injustice.

There's one confirmed violation of rules -- McNally taking the footballs without making sure the league knew where he was going with them.

I'm OK with a fine for that.
I'm going to disagree here. It's already been stated by both McNally and the officials that McNally was at the back of the officials lockerroom with the footballs and he had to walk by ALL the officials and NFL Brass to get out. The claims that the league didn't know where he was going with them are BS imho.

I'm pretty sure that he's been told to keep his ****ing mouth shut. Anything he says can and will be twisted and used against the Patriots. Silence is golden.
If he never did anything he should say it.

Time to merge threads. (This one is 10 minutes older)

Oh, I didn't mean that King would do that. He's a weathervane -- and if he's got to even this point, it tells us that the wind really is changing direction.

But we can go on asking those questions. Perhaps the wind will change further, and, like all corrupt organizations, there will be sneaky little ****s in the NFL willing to stab others in the back if the full story starts to come out.

Peter King must have some reason to think he is on safe ground with Goodell's office to write this. My guess is that the data from the balls tested in 2015 supported the notion of an ideal gas law, much the same way a punt dropping out of the sky can lead one to believe in gravity.

King is positioning to jump on board the pro-Patriots bandwagon when the appellate court upholds Berman.

There will be a brief spasm of support to award the Patriots some compensatory picks after the court rules. King can chime in with the rest of the Greek chorus without risking a thing. It'll go nowhere.

Life will go on. The Patriots will go 12-4 or 13-3. They'll play some team in the AFC Championship game whose loudmouth players will accuse Brady of cheating. We'll lose our minds, and God will look upon his work and see that it is good.

Except for that Trump thing.

If he never did anything he should say it.

He has said it. It's in the Wells report. He denied it 3 times when interviewed by NFL security and he stuck to his story during a 7+ hour interrogation from Wells. The fact that Wells couldn't get anything out of him should say a lot. It's not like he was even accused of a crime. 7+ is a long time and a decent interrogator should have been able to get someone lying to slip up. It's not like McNally is some sophisticated criminal. The only thing Wells could get out of him was him referring to a toilet as a urinal which Douchebag Wells was convinced is evidence of guilt.

I'm sure McNally feels horrible about the whole thing...stepping into the bathroom and all the immature texts and is doing exactly what the team has asked of him by not speaking publicly.

He just called him, the best owner he could ever work for. Belichick has no reason to hate Kraft, he gave him a second chance and complete autonomy to run football operations as well as a kings ransom to the Jets for his rights. He had also kept him one of the highest paid coaches in sports throughout his tenure. Kraft has treated Belichick incredibly well and that's why he is still here.

That would be in three months...pretty much lightening speed. It could be a lot longer, depending on the other cases under review. I mean some of them might actually be serious matters regarding whether people go to, stay in or get out of prison.

Keep all the crooks in prison - there that was easy haha.

The Brady case is not a difficult one, so hopefully the ruling will be quick.

Typical passive aggressive all over the place lack of cogent thinking by King looking for some reason to say "I called it!" when Brady wins the appeal and the judges eviscerate Goodell.
Of course he'll then be the magnanimous peacemaker writing "It's time to move on" as if nothing of consequence ever happened to Brady or Pats draft fans.
