No, I'm not saying the deal is going to involve Peppers. But we keep freely talking about how Peppers will only agree to a trade with one of four teams. Out of 32, only 4 are even considerations?

Ok, so why don't we accept that Matt and his agent handed a "do not want kittay" list to Bill and that dictated with whom we could trade?

Suppose he says KC, Denver, Tampa Bay and that's it? The AFCE is eliminated by default, probably.

Well, then you take the best pick you can get. What you have is a guy you picked up in the SEVENTH round, who did a fantastic job in relief in the final year of his contract who becomes an essential first rounder (deep draft, high #2) and you offload a player that may very well have been facing being cut, ensuring you don't face him before he retires and letting him go with dignity.

This is not a bad trade. We could have done better if Cassel had no say in the matter, but I suspect that was the fly in the ointment.

Vrabel was probably not a deal breaker.

Tomorrow and Monday, as Schefter says, are like the boxing day sale at Wal-Mart in FA. This year will continue to be splashy. Still a lot of high-value/reasonable cost FA's out there. Look what we did with no-name QB's.

I wrote something similar in another post earlier today saying that maybe the Chiefs were the only team Cassel wanted to go to.

Sorry, man. I was away all day and this place is hard enough to keep up on at the computer, let alone on a mobile phone.

Fixed your post for those among us who don't speak Canadian.

I agree. It's so out of character for BB to get swindled especially by a friend and former colleague that I'm sure that there is a lot more to this than we know right now. The way this off-season has gone thus far, it's reminding me a lot of 2007 when the Pats landed Moss. IMO...stay-tuned because there is more to follow that will make us all very happy and go..."Oh, now I get it"

I totally forgot you guys were holiday deficient. BTW, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and Hong Kong also shop cheap.

Hey, at least the Canadians acknowledge that it's all about buying the stuff.

Denver came calling his way.. I think he would have perfered Denver with that OL and WR corp over KC. BB was fleeced..

No, Tampa Bay and Detroit called Denver about acquiring Cutler, and having New England send Cassel to Denver. Of course, Belichick might have shot Cassel -> DEN down.

Not true. What's been reported is that Tampa contacted Denver about Cutler. Denver wasn't in the market for Cassel.

Totally disagree with the fleecing comments.

peppers is a 4-3 dl not a olb like people here salivate over, he is 29 and wants big time $, it wont happen

I didn't mean like that saying "where were you?". I just was reiterating what I wrote earlier. I didn't expect you to know that because this board has been chaos since the trade.

Yea you bring up a good point maybe that was the case

That's a stretch. Why would Cassel be dying to go to a 2-14 team? [Granted, they are moving in the right direction as an organization.]

I appreciate the positive spin on things, but if Cassel had a say in the matter, he'd much rather go to TB or Denver where he has a chance of winning imminently. Even the Vikes and Niners would be better options, but they weren't interested due to the asking price.

Everyone is looking for some grand solution as to why Cassel didn't yield the bounty we expected. Maybe the answer has nothing to do w football - maybe its just this economy is a nightmare, and not many teams wanted to fork over that kind of cash to Cassel right now.

Maybe he's comfortable with Pioli and knows he'll bring them up to speed quick. I dont think Denver was ever an option and who knows what Tampa offered if they made an offer.
Not trying to put a positive spin on this but we dont know what goes on behind the scenes. I doubt BB got fleeced.

Thanks for the input, you have no basis of knowledge and are talking out your *****.

Unreal.

I don't think BB got fleeced either. I think ultimately the deal was fair and wil work out well for both teams.

But to think Matt Cassel had much say in the matter seems naive. BB isn't going to let Cassel dictate his actions, Cassel isn't going to limit his market and therefore his price, and least of all is he going to limit his market to a 2-14 squad.

IMO, Cassel didn't care where he played. He has been riding the bench for so long to be able to get on the field was the most important thing to him. He isn't money hungry. Also he didn't even sign a new contract yet. So if he really wanted to play only for the Cheifs don't you think he would of had some long term deal worked out? The Patriots basically traded him to the only team that was willing to take the 14 million cap hit.
