Pats under investigation for Covid protocol breaches

Not open for further replies.
I am scoffing at the notion that anything that has happened over the past week (from the scheduling of the game to the "investigation" of protocol violations) is anything but normal procedure for the League regarding how they are dealing with teams that have positive cases. Deflategate and videotaping are entirely different subjects which I would be happy to discuss in the appropriate thread instead of hijacking this one.
No - you scoffed at the idea that the league is out to get us. Period.

I provided evidence to the contrary. If you don't like evidence that goes against your narrative the problem isn't really on my side.

Ah yes... SB1's favorite maneuver.... play make believe and put words in someone's mouth then respond to what you are pretending someone said instead of what they actually said.

In the meantime, we are discussing Covid in here and I would like to request you please stick to the subject matter at hand.

This article does not support the never ending "league is out to get us" paranoia we see in your forum.

Ok so I guess this was some other poster with the same name that said this.

So once again if it's just paranoia, was it a really crazy bizarre coincidence that the league was frustrated they couldn't pin a cheating scandal on us? If you really think so then just say it.

and yet you've been given examples of why Pats fans should be annoyed they launched an immediate investigation

Falcons had 1 player a couple of weeks ago- no word of an investigation still to this second

Chiefs had 1 player this weekene - no word of an immediate investigation

Saints had 1 player this weekend- no word of an immediate investigation

3 examples of 1 and only 1 player testing positive and no reports of an immediate investigation to any of them. Why is that? What is the difference?

It's the same **** with how the Chargers warmed up balls in the cold and got a slap on the wrist but Pats and Brady got punished severly for Clete Blakeman and Walt Anderson being incompetent, an out of context text messages and the nfl ignoring science. Also it was based on an air pressure rule from the 1950s or some ****. Which doesn't account on how different the balls from then and now. Maybe the 1950s ball held manual pump air better than today's footballs hold compressed air. nfl is making the rules as they go along on this

According to Schefter, it is nothing more than a procedural motion and nothing accusatory. I will go with Schefter's reporting over anyone else's - especially Florio.

According to Schefter, Tennessee is being investigated and NE is not. Sorry not sorry, I need more than something Florio reported (and other outlets ran with) before I fly off the handle.

OK I guess I have to spell it out, lest you continue to deliberately misrepresent my statements:

The League has treated NE grossly unfairly in the past. I am the first one in line to agree with that statement. Any analysis of my comments in the past on a range of other issues supports this. However, there is a certain paranoia on the part of both Patriots fans and Patriots haters that the League always treats the Patriots unfairly (believed by some fans) or gives the Patriots unfair breaks (believed by some haters).

I am not one of the group of paranoid that sees nefarious intent in everything the League does. I do not believe they made the decision to move the game to Monday with the desire to help KC and hurt NE. I do not believe their procedural inquiry into what happened constitutes some sort of nefarious "investigation" where they are determined to take draft picks.

Any other questions, or are you just going to stick to putting words in my mouth and misrepresenting my statements like you usually do?

This whole thing is stupid. I don't know how Cam got tested Friday morning and was in the building all day Friday and no one else managed to not get infected. Second how the hell can you ask the other 40 some odd players and then the staff to get on a plane with each other 2 days after his positive test? Third how the hell does delaying this game one day really do anything? The Titans finally had their first day in an entire week with no positive tests today.

As usual the NFL is bungling this. If it turns out there is anyone who has it but it is still in the “incubation” period and it gets spread due to this game the whole season is done for.

PFT hiring comedy writers now?

There hadn’t even been (and still hasn’t been) a second positive in New England. Which makes it a bit strange, to say the least, that the NFL moved so quickly.

It’s unclear whether the NFL also has launched an investigation in Kansas City regarding its single positive test, generated by practice-squad quarterback Jordan Ta’amu.

WTF is wrong with this league? The other owners must support these actions by the league office against Kraft's team. They know that Kraft is too weak to scream "foul," he wants to be accepted into the ownership club. Besides, Brady, "the Cheat" "deflates balls," is now with Tompa, so follow the "Cheat" and leave the Pats alone or treat them equally. Kraft thinks Goodell is his friend, with a friend like that who needs enemies.

Fair enough. I'm not trying to misrepresent anyone, I'm just going on your quotes.

A lot of higher ups in the league do not like the Patriots organization and especially Belichick. The evidence we have seen in at least the last 6 1/2 years backs that that up. I mean cmon why on earth would any investigator "be frustrated" they couldn't find incriminating evidence that the signature franchise of the league is cheating? Can you blame any of us for being paranoid?

The move to Monday was not done to hurt the Patriots but the desire to quickly open an investigation into this team after talking about stripping draft picks from protocol violators, much quicker than other teams... it's at the very least an eyebrow raiser given what we have seen since the night of the 2014 AFC Championship game.

League will do what they want to do, kinda numb to all the investigations. I figure Brady retires after next year and Bill is here until he gets Shula’s win total (~5-7 seasons). So at around age 50 or so I’m done with this league and then the NFL can go @$&! themselves with a rusty fishing knife. Actually they can $@&? themselves now too!

Fair enough. And FWIW, let me also clarify one other thing please because I made a very poorly worded post earlier:

I think they should push this game back a couple weeks (either to "Week 18" or move the Jets game so NE and KC have the same bye week and play it then). I believe the League's top priority is playing on time (and pushing to Monday counts as "on time"). I believe they would have made the same decision if it was Mahomes and not Newton. BUT I do not believe this is the best decision given the circumstances. The positive test for Newton happened too recently to play roughly 48 hours later.
