PATS TRADE JAMIE COLLINS!!!

After all these years, forums still think we know more than the GM/coach of what's effectively his team. I'll trust BB's instincts and decision on this one, even if the compensation does seem a little disproportionate for the talent traded.

Looking forward to seeing what else BB has planned for the trade period and pressingly, our free agent class.

So how is a Browns 2018 4th round draft pick higher compensation than a 2018 3rd round comp pick?

According to reports:

They get the 3rd round comp if Cleveland gets the 3rd round comp.

They get the 4th round pick if Cleveland doesn't get that level of comp.

What hasn't been reported is what happens if Collins shocks the world and signs on with Cleveland.

The same source that Mike Loyko used to get the 11 million per offer to Collins & the locker room argument with Patricia & BB says that Collins was going to sign but he was negotiating with the counter offer of a Von Miller contract. Hesays Collins had just started construction on a new house in Canton, MA (I have no idea where that is). Collins was blindsided by the trade.
No offense but Canton would not be my first choice if I signed a $80m deal. Neither would be my current town which I love

The only thing I can think of is Collins wasn't happy with the contract the Pats offered and instead of playing his ass off and winning another Super Bowl.. he let it effect him and was probably talking alot of **** to other players. Add to that his inconsistency in play and his injuries.. this must have pissed off BB to the point of just saying **** it, we are moving on now.

Something doesn't add up.

I would take Bowie or Fleetwood Mac over them to be honest (even though I'm not really sure how comparable either of those two acts are to Queen).

Queen's best work is world's better than the best work of either Bowie or Fleetwood Mac. I might agree with you with regards to entire bodies of work. It's one I'd have to think about.

Ok, so Bill traded him because he wasn't.... hold on...

So, we could have have gotten just as much for a compensation pick if we just let him....

I'm going to have to give this some thought tomorrow after it sinks in.

If that's the case, then BB must REALLY have wanted Collins gone ASAP. Otherwise they're dealing away a talented player for WORSE compensation than they would have received just for keeping him and then letting him go to free agency.

The NFL has never issued more than 4 3rd round comp picks in any year, they would have to issue 8 for the Browns to get one.

You have a better chance of Hillary Clinton telling the truth, than for that to happen!!!

I understand that there are 8 games left - but I'm still very surprised they could only pry a cond 3rd round pick... so many dumb GMs. None would have given more ? Is that a sign or is it "The best I can get from the worst team in the league we'll not face again this season" ?

I assume Belichick did not want to trade him to a contender. So what is an 8-game Collins rental worth to a non-contender ? We now know the answer to that - between a 3rd and 4th round pick.

This site needs an "agree to disagree" button, but I see your point.

That soundtrack results in me watching that freakin' movie almost every time I see it on TV.

I'll one up you. I have a couple of songs on my mp3 player. The music when Flash and the Hawkmen take over Ajax Generals ship is classic.

Sad.

Patriots safety Devin McCourty said today that he couldn’t believe it when he learned that Collins had been traded to the Browns.

“Jamie is arguably our best defensive player,” McCourty told CSNNE.com. “When you get a guy like Jamie who was here for four years on the team, a very productive player, to lose him is a bit shocking to everybody on the team.”

Devin McCourty: Jamie Collins trade is “shocking”

As if this gigantic thread wasn't crazy enough, then you can't help but invoke your political views in it. Jesus.

Is there a long list of people who actually said that the defense was performing at peak efficiency and its highest level?

There was that thread from weeks 3-4 complaining about the defense, but the overall stats, especially points allowed, were fine. Even the Bills shutout was no big deal since the defense held them to 16. No one was saying the 2016 Pats were the second coming of the 2000 Ravens, the 1985 Bears, or the 2002 Buccaneers, but they were pretty good. We'll see how this trafe changes the performance of the defense.

I look forward to learning a little more about this Collins move. I'm guessing it has to do with how he fit in with the rest of the players, the coaches, and how disciplined he was in knowing his assignments. We've seen lesser players come and go, but this was a big one.

Why Collins trade makes sense for Patriots

Conventional wisdom says the New England Patriots should maximize their championship window while the end draws near for 39-year-old quarterback Tom Brady. But instead of trying to add the final piece to their Super Bowl puzzle at the trade deadline, New England shipped dynamic linebacker Jamie Collins to the Cleveland Browns for a 2017 third-round pick Monday.

Of course, conventional wisdom does not apply to New England in the era of Brady and coach Bill Belichick. The Patriots were the ones trading dynamic pass-rusher Chandler Jones to Arizona before the season -- a move widely seen as the Cardinals adding the one piece they needed to get over the top. The one-move-away approach to team building rarely works out as planned because so many other variables change from year to year.

Trading away Collins could backfire on New England, but there are quite a few short- and long-term reasons this move could provide the latest evidence of the Patriots being two steps ahead of the game.

its an insider article, im curious what the reasons are

Obviously a disciplinary move. In case you hadn't noticed, BB has a temper. He has done this type of thing before. Can't think of the closest parallel, but does seem familiar.

Having Lombardi defend the Collins trade is akin to having Donna Brazille on CNN defending Hillary.

You may be on to something that scared CNN; they fired her today!
