PATS TRADE JAMIE COLLINS!!!

He got in a heated argument? So what. I don' care how much he wanted to get paid next year, we are trying to win a Super Bowl this year.

You got NOTHING in return for him. You would have received the same draft pick basically the year after he left for free agency.

The bottom line is Bill Belichick didn't want Collins in New England.. He clearly think the Patriots are a better team this year without him on the roster. Which I find very hard to believe.

I could understand if we got something in return for him but we really didn't. We would have received compensatory picks anyway.

I am still hopeful that this team will try to do something when it comes to the trading deadline. Let's wait and see

Won't we lose Clevelands high 4th round, ala deflategate?

From the latest news I can gather its either a 3rd round compensatory pick this year or a 4th rounder in 2018. So either way we keep the pick.

Especially if they offered him 11 million dollars a year they clearly liked Jamie Collins. Thats not Von Miller money but its alot of money. So the Pats thought he had alot of value.. which makes me scratch my head even more.

Everyone thinks elandon roberts can be the answer.

Wanted too much money and was underperforming. What's not to get?

That's fine.

The problem is this is a potential Super Bowl team. If someone gets injured and we're reduced to a guy nowhere near as good as Collins? Then there is no defending this.

Something tells me that collins was acting like a jackass behind close doors. Gonna have hold our breath with this defense.

There is bound to be some growing pains.

Not sure why some folks are all up in arms... this is a typical BB move. You want more money, pound your chest and be a lone star?... let me help you accomplish that on anther team. Sure it hurts, but there are still 22 hours before the trade deadline... keep your fingers crossed.

Still can't believe Collins basically got cut. Now I have to change my avatar for no reason :/

So it's a lesser pick than the Pats would have gotten in 2018 if they kept him and let him leave via free agency! This deal gets worse and worse

Mike Lombardi had mentioned that the Pats defense has been struggling with both Hightower and Collins have been below par this year prior to this weekend's games Episode 136 (around the 18:30 min mark).

A 2018 4th rounder. Just finished reading this thread and unlike some I am now fully under the belief that Belichick did this to punish Collins in addition to getting rid of a looming locker room cancer. You can't tell me there wasn't a single team that could have offered up anything slightly better than what we got from Cleveland. Based on the reports of the failing contract talks and his lack of work ethic I understand the need to trade him but for what we got in return is just mind boggling.

The Pats traded Drew Bledsoe and won the 2001 SB.
They traded Lawyer Milloy and won the 2003 SB.
They traded Madeiu Williams and won the 2004 SB.
They traded Logan Mankins and won the 2014 SB.

BB took it up a notch in 2016 and traded Chandler Jones and Jamie Collins to make things interesting.

One other takeaway from today is that the Patriots have played the comp pick system so well that people now take them for granted. The Pats would only get a comp pick for Collins if they avoided signing players that offset that pick. That's now not an issue.

As an example, it looks like the Jets cost themselves a 4th round comp pick for Damon Harrison because they decided that they needed Jarvis Jenkins, who has only played 21.5% of the defensive snaps.

It would be nice if our tackles could collapse the pocket and clog the middle at times. That would be nice.

Hightower's been great. He's just been injured. Collins' play had been noticeably worse. Still good IMO but not what it was last year.

It's not all that surprising.

1) You obviously don't want to trade him to a team that can challenge you in the AFC / Super Bowl. So you can throw like a third to half of all NFL teams out of the window

2) Collins is going to be a free agent. Teams will be weary offering a high draft pick for a guy that could be an 8 game rental in the worst case

Which is part of the point I was making.
