@DougKyed fwiw a CLE reporter earlier said it would be a 3rd rd compensatory pick if CLE is awarded one. 4th if not

If that's the case, it's a situation where they wanted him out.

It is worse. Dale and Holly reporting it is a conditional 2018 4th round pick.

I'm a 'Trust in BB' type because well, I mean, what the **** do I know plus BB has won a few games here and there despite having no 1st round pick 1 out of every 5.3333 drafts.

When he was at his best Collins was our best defender, imo, edging out Hightower. It's really tough to blindly trust BB over this one because even though his play was down this year I still thought when healthy Collins was amazing.

But I'm just gonna trust that the team knows what they're doing. The whole 'moving a player too early is better than too late' thing. But JEEEEESSSSSSSSSSUZ it's hard to find much redeeming about this move.

Browns had 2 1st, 2 2nd and 2 3rd (assuming they get the comp pick) before this trade.

In Bill we trust and all that, but we should have at least gotten the Browns own 3rd.

WTF!!! He's one of our best players. Hightower can't stay healthy for a whole season.
"One of our best players" might explain why the Patriots D has been so unimpressive this season.
Jamie Collins has great natural ability. Jamie Collins rarely dominates with that ability.
I would argue that Collins is far more invisible game in and game out than he is an impact player.
Mix in an attitude, throw in a desire to freelance and not skate his lane on the field and this is addition by subtraction. The Patriots have lesser talent but have guys they can count on showing up.

I don't know guys. This trade doesn't pass the "eye test".

Can it really be a 2018 fourth ? Wow. I was disappointed in the compensation as is...

Speaks to something deeper than diminishing production.

A 4th rounder. Wow. Collins must have been really acting like a sourpuss

If (and that's a big if) the reports are true, they literally gave him away, since the return is no better than they would have been expecting to get in return if they'd just let him walk after the season.

Maybe Bill needs to start listening to his scouts instead of overruling them and picking stiffs on draft day. We're trending back towards 2009-2012 defense.

Have fun scoring 30+ every game, Tom.

Ehhh, this one doesn't feel right. Is there at least a plan to add before the trade deadline?

Do you believe the report about the 11 million?

In any case .. re picks .. this trade was not about pick. It was about .. goodbye ..

How is this even a thing? The Patriots are one of the best teams as far as points against goes, so....

If it's true that Collins was freelancing and not doing his assignment as well as getting into heated arguments with coaching staff during the Bills game, then I mean of course he was let go. This is Belichick we are talking about, that freelancing stuff doesn't fly with him, and if this had been something that was reoccurring through multiple games then that's a problem.

In the end, I don't think one player makes this team, and I don't think the loss of Collins will derail this team's Superbowl dream. This is a juggernaut still getting some key players back, I.E. Deion Lewis, so the sky's the limit.

The defense lately has been less "bend don't break" and more "crack don't shatter" at times. Hopefully Bill is trying to get them back to where they need to be.

I believe that the Collins camp was going to be asking for top level LB money. I don't know the exact numbers, but I expect that Collins was going to be asking for every last dollar, and that he wasn't going to be going with "I don't need Kuechly/Miller money, because I want the team to be able to spread the wealth".

I also think, given reports, that this is a Moss situation rather than a Mankins situation.

This is clearly a locker room move. It's not the first one we've seen Bill make and it won't be the last one either.
