You have potential as a draft pick. You have potential as a rookie. You may even have potential throughout your first contract, depending upon your position. But, sooner or later, potential turns into wasted talent. That's just how sports works. The sporting corpses of "tremendous potential" guys pile up year after year.

We can hope that this player turns things around. But if he's anything more than the team's TE3, it's a bad sign for the position.

    Never really understood this one.

Couldn’t it suggest a player with a higher value might be a guy who the QB only throws to on rare occasion when more glaringly open, and isn’t trusted in tight coverage. Meanwhile, a lower value guy could be one who the QB can rely on to make a more highly contested catch?

Anyone criticizing the move - not Jenkins problems or lack of productivity - is being Felger-level stupid, sorry.

it's a great move. Even if nothing comes of it, given the present circumstances, it's a great move.

He didn't get hosed. The teams in the playoffs got hosed when Al Riveron started changing the ruling, most likely pressured by owners/NFL office because of butthurt patriots hating fans.

Apparently, he's supposed to be young, athletic, have two way ability, and maxed out his potential in stats, before a team gives him to us.

Pats still draft a TE with their 2nd round pick at the latest.

Lol. Ranking 51 out of 51 is pretty relevant to being VERY GOOD.

2017 and no, that’s exactly the point 350 receiving yards for a#1 TE is not VERY GOOD.

Nor when you consider length of throw.

Maybe he can. But he was t VERY GOOD in 2017 which is the point you disagreeed with and are currently strawmanning to death.

Those aren’t my rankings. They are the rankings from the website you linked as proof he didn’t only catch short passes which showed him as dead last in dvoy the exact opposite of what you purported them to show.

More strawman. I never said I don’t like the nice or he wouldn’t make the trsm I said he wasn’t VERY GOOD in 2017
As usual you create things that aren’t there so you don’t look foolish arguing against what I really said.

Like how Patterson was going to be our slot receiver and Dorsett had drops on 50% of his targets?

He definitely never lived up to his draft status, but if they can get Fant or Smith to be their receiving TE and use Sefarian-Jenkins as the # 2TE then they may have fixed the problem of losing both Gronk and Allen. I dont think we will ever see anything like vintage Gronk again but they can still get good production out of their TE’s.

Couple that with this being the likely most important point his NFL career will ever be at (the potential for future earnings is directly connected to 2019)/his potential motivation being greatest, a system that is more able to get the better out of a player, some of his lack of realizing his talent is based off field (with the hope the Patriots can help fix that part), the stars have aligned for ASJ to put it together. (if not now then it's likely barely a JAG for whatever is the remainder of his career). Motivation is an underrated value.

Expectations must be set. Gronk's replacement is not something you find right around the corner. If we can get TE production notably above that player's cap expense, this is a win. And again the stars are aligned for ASJ and his underlying talent to put it together. The proverbial ball is in his court now. We'll see...

Dwayne Allen was a disappointment in Indy before they traded him to NE, and when he came to his first camp he was out of shape and wasn’t ready. However he then turned it around in their program, and while he sucked as a receiver he became a great blocker and apparently the consummate teammate, which is a big reason Flores brought him in to Miami. Whether Sefarian-Jenkins can turn it around or not is a big question, but if he does and becomes Allen’s replacement then he could actually be an upgrade that increases Brady’s receiving options. That does, however, mean that they’re going to have to draft the receiving TE to replace Gronk. Should be interesting.

Well, he did take a mid-round long snapper who had a previous commitment to the Navy, so nothing would really shock me at this point.

    Uniformed. Low information.

2006 LM was ranked 57th -- Dillion was the Pats lead #1 RB in 2006 @ 5th Dillon was a # 1 NFL RB for "quite a while" RUNNING BACKS 2006 | Football Outsiders

2007 LM was ranked 7th -- Top of the mountain that Maroney would never see again. RUNNING BACKS 2007 | Football Outsiders

2008 LM was ranked 0 -- Sammy Morris was the lead #1 RB in 2008 @ 8th RUNNING BACKS 2008 | Football Outsiders People in the know would not classify Morris as a # 1 NFL RB. Like Maroney, Morris was a JAG middle of road fill in player.

2009 LM was ranked 26th -- The Pats had to give Maroney the carries to see if he was worth a new contract.

2010 LMs final NFL season in Denver. NE did not resign the # 1 RB who started a total of 14 games in 4 seasons because Maroney was average on not a top #1 RB. 14 starts, the same number of starts that Sammy Morris had coming off the streets.

Knowledgeable Pats fans know that 2 seasons dont add up to "quite a while" But if Maroney fans still want to spread misinformation thats your choice.

There is no use providing you with facts and it takes so much time because youve been busy spreading more misinformation than I have time to correct.

Maybe you will understand but not every NFL offense is TE driven like NEs. The raw materials are there for Jenkins to be a very good player in NE.

Maroney split the job almost equally with Dillon in 2006 became the #1 rb in 2007 remained the #1 through 2009 missing most of 2008 with an injury.
That is quite a while. In any event while you want to hide behind semantics at least you admitted that you were wrong and maroney was in fact a #1 rb.
