Pats Should Keep Garoppolo Through 2017

Sorry but Jacoby is garbage if hes our next QB we are done, Jimmy G is the answer possibly.
That is a pretty definitive answer just 2 games into a rookie's career.
I would like to believe that after another two years backing up Brady, that Jacoby may be a decent NFL QB, but I could be wrong.

I just don't think hes the one our franchise would be in way better hand if JG took the reigns when its time even then if theres a QB we can happen to snatch in a future draft (2017/2018/2019/2020) im all for it cause you never know

Unless the coaching staff thinks Garoppolo is elite, you trade him this offseason while his value is at its highest.

Depends upon a team meeting the price, if so he's gone, if not they will play it out through 2017 and tag him if they have to.

So, the patriots should NOT give serious money after three regular season games, but other teams will give us serious compensation?

Some teams will make a gamble based on what he showed, and more so, on Belichick's talent evaluation skills. The Patriots have no chance but to roll with Brady for at least another two seasons, which is obviously not a bad position to be in, but it will probably cost them Garappolo. They, you guys are fine with that, obviously. It's an unfortunate situation for JG, but waiting another 3-4 seasons to play would be career suicide. He would be almost 30 by the time he got his own team.

If the Browns offer their 1st round pick. I'll take that for JG in a heartbeat. If it's only their high 2nd rounder, that's a thanks but no thanks. Even if it's only 3 teams bidding, you only need 1 team to fall in love to pries away some valuable picks that would set up our team nicely with additional talent.

If you look around the league not many teams will be looking for a QB this off-season. Of course it could change, but as of today, the only teams I see really in the QB market would be the Jets, Browns (as usual), and then maybe the Jags or KC. So the Jimmy market might not be that hot (for a trade).

Just what the hell would you do with a first round pick? Draft another QB who might or might not be worth anything, eventually? Successful Starting QBs are probably a one in 25 QB picks, and successful franchise QBs are probably a one in a hundred QB picks. Some teams go decades looking for one.

Why do you want to do that? What another position do you need so desperately? I'll tell you NONE !! You might, repeat, might have found one now. Why throw it away for a handful of Jack's magic draft pick beans?

that's the whole thing........you have an asset who becomes more important to a roster since the starter is 39

I believe Jimmy has the ability to win it all with this team......with that in mind, there's no point in unloading him for an absolute unknown

Because one other realistic outcome of keeping him through 2017 is that you "throw it away" when he leaves in 2018 free agency for only a 2019 comp pick in return. Not everybody believes in your fantasy of both QBs leaving money on the table to stay with the Patriots and compete with each other.

If the situation required it, I'd be ok with letting Jimmy walk in 2018. Would I like to see us get something in return? Sure! But Garoppolo is great insurance to have around for at least another season. You never know what kinda turn Brady's health or career will take.

At very least, we can franchise tag him and trade him off then. But we should definitely keep him through 2017.

What fantasy? And who leaves money on the table?

The only artiface is keeping the CAP hit low enough in 2018/19 . Giving JG a $25 -30 million signing bonus on a 50-60 million 5-7 year deal. Which is amortized over a 5 year or longer contract hardly constitutes no instant money for him. Brady's current deal was set up this way, paying him big money when signed. A check for 20-25 million the day he signs, is not chicken feed for Polo. A $20 million in signing bonus and up to 5 million initial and rising salary, seems reasonable, and an amortizable sum of 10 million CAP hit in 2018, is very doable. He inherits a Superbowl contender, with a system he knows in which he can succeed, rather than a Bottom feeder like the Jets or Browns where he is sure to get beaten up and not win.

Brady can't play forever despite avocado ice cream. No one cheats Father Time. Brady, I suspect, will have a case of WillieMayitis. And so does his father. Transitioning him to a part time spot player at age 42 and maybe beyond is hardly dissing him. He will play as much as his then current production merits, and so will Polo. Competition is the name of the game.

We could trade Jimmy G for a first rounder and use the first to draft a QB whether in '17 '18 would trade for a 1st in whatever year has the most promising qb prospects and yes if we get a 1st for JG that 1st should be used for a QB

Independent of any other point you're making, Brady will never be on any roster as a "part time spot player."

That's WillieMay-itis symptoms. Both his father and I believe Brady will have to be dragged kicking and screaming from the gridiron. He will never admit he has lost it, even when it is obvious to all but him...

Why? To draft a can't miss Carr, or Bartles, or Manziel, or ??? More importantly, should we go into 2017 and 2018 without a qualified backup QB on a Superbowl contender, with a 40 0r 41 year old Brady?

If Garoppolo is this great starting QB that you say he is, then he's going to want something like $60 million over three years, not $60 million over seven years. That's what I mean by "leaving money on the table" and "fantasy."

I'm just saying Brady will never be a "part time spot player." I mean, no QB is, Brady certainly won't be. He won't be a backup.

Disagree that he won't know when to hang it up.

So the proposed contract has built in performance based escalators that take it to that level. They dont apply till earned so they dont affect CAP in 2018...

Why on Earth would JAG be stupid enough to agree to such a deal?
