What fantasy? And who leaves money on the table?
The only artiface is keeping the CAP hit low enough in 2018/19 . Giving JG a $25 -30 million signing bonus on a 50-60 million 5-7 year deal. Which is amortized over a 5 year or longer contract hardly constitutes no instant money for him. Brady's current deal was set up this way, paying him big money when signed. A check for 20-25 million the day he signs, is not chicken feed for Polo. A $20 million in signing bonus and up to 5 million initial and rising salary, seems reasonable, and an amortizable sum of 10 million CAP hit in 2018, is very doable. He inherits a Superbowl contender, with a system he knows in which he can succeed, rather than a Bottom feeder like the Jets or Browns where he is sure to get beaten up and not win.
Brady can't play forever despite avocado ice cream. No one cheats Father Time. Brady, I suspect, will have a case of WillieMayitis. And so does his father. Transitioning him to a part time spot player at age 42 and maybe beyond is hardly dissing him. He will play as much as his then current production merits, and so will Polo. Competition is the name of the game.
