Pats release Leigh Bodden

You are overrating Butler. He is starting, but he isn't great. He has 18 tackles, 4 pass defenses, 0 INTs.

Besides, who cares what Butler is doing elsewhere? Just because his career has rebounded in Carolina, it doesn't change the fact he struggled in the Pats' defense. Some players just fit into one system over another.

So you think the Pats should have kept him so he could get smoked on the Pats defense just because he doesn't get smoked in a different system that obviously fits his skills more? Butler had three years here. He just wasn't a good fit here. What ever he does for the rest of his career doesn't change that fact.

The Jets cut Woodhead because he couldn't get on the field with him. The Dolphins let Welker go because he just didn't perform in their system. Some players excel in some systems and not others.

I haven't watched Butler. Only followed what Panthers fans have said about him, and they say he's playing really well.

By the way, he had 2 seasons in New England, not 3.

You're saying we're not allowed to question Belichick on D-backfield choices? Excuse me, but I saw with my own two eyes live how horrendously bad Barret and Brown were. I have huge doubts about Molden and Adams, given the incredible weakness at DB of the teams that cut them.

Are you asking me right now if I'd prefer Butler over Molden and Sanders over Barrett? Yes.

Yeah I immediately change my opinions of cut players too.

Yeah, I changed my opinion of him......

Nope. Just because I wasn't around in 09 or when he got his extension doesn't mean I didn't have that opinion of him back then.

Bodden was never that good. He was released by the 0-16 Lions for christ sake. If he didn't have 5 interceptions (3 coming from one game vs. Sanchez) in 2009 some other people would have realized this.

If you don't like my opinions, here you go: Ignore Me

Oh that's wonderful. If McCourty or Arrington happen to get hurt, Anquan Moldin is a starting CB lmfao. WTF is BB doing.

Seriously mind-boggling... Moldin is really better for us than Bodden and Butler?

Don't worry. After BB makes all his trade downs, the Patriots will have 420 7th round picks with which to whiff on CBs.

So you're saying Belichick is a poor assessor of talent?

they may be a bad team but he's a starting CB for the 12th ranked pass defense and the pats replaced him with Antwaun Molden who has 0 career starts in he's 4 years in the NFL

The only thing saving the Panthers is that they've faced the 3rd least passing attempts. They're 3rd-worst in YPA (Pats tied for worst) and 4th-worst in passer rating (Pats 8th-worst).

considering pitts passing game of sanders, wallace, brown ward..this is could be a challenge for our D

LOL! Understatement of the year!

Good. I thought he was mediocre in '09, hurt all year last year and mediocre this year.

His "ability" in 09 was so overstated solely because Mark Sanchez is an awful QB. If Sanchez literally didn't throw 3 passes directly too Bodden, rather than his reciever people would have realize that he really wasn't that good.

Even without those 3 picks, he was a starting-caliber corner. Not the playmaker that 5 picks implies, but pretty good in coverage.

As the DB carousel continues.....the question has to be asked.....who evaluates this position group, and who coaches it. FAIL/FAIL. The common theme with our DBs is that their performance regresses the longer they stay on the roster.

It's like a college professor. If a vast majority of your students are failing, they're not the problem, you are the problem. Bodden: Huge contract. Butler: 2nd rounder. Wheatley: 2nd rounder. Merriweather: 1st rounder. Starks: 3rd rounder. These aren't no talent bums or so much wouldn't have been invested in them, just like college kids aren't morons. Since Asante (jury is still out on McCourty), BB has failed bigtime with the DB's.

The sad thing is alot of the whiffs have been 2nd round or higher

Umm, that's not quite what happened. . . .

So, Bodden gets released because he sucks, yet Chad Ochopieceofgarbage-o remains. Makes sense.....sigh....

I fixed the three year thing.

I didn't say that you cannot question Belichick, but we saw what Butler could do in this defense. Sure the Pats could have kept Butler for another year so people could biatch what a horrible draft pick he was and cut him next year and let him rebound his career then. It was clear for whatever reason, he was not a fit here. To Belichick's credit, he let him go rather than do what most coaches do and hold onto high draft picks because they won't admit they made a mistake on a guy.

You most certainly can complain about things with Belichick, but cutting Butler was not a bad move on his part. He just wasn't a fit here. We all saw that. Just because he is much better in Carolina doesn't change that. It just means he either needed a change of scenery or he is just a better system fit for them.

BTW, I would rather have Sanders over Barrett. I don't know just yet if I would want Sanders over Ihedibgo though. As for Butler over Molden, it would have been Butler over Bodden when he was cut.

They should have just paid Assante in the first place. :bricks:

Well enough. He was good not great his last year with them. He wasn't a 1/3 of the player he was here. He definitely was not the best fit for their system.

But he's a good practice player!

Well that was fine.....until he got his ridiculous contract that wasn't deserved.

I like your analogy....which hit home with what my kid went thru this week. I get an email from my son's English teacher saying he had to go to detention and talk with the school counselor because he didn't submit homework...and laughed about it when he was informed of his detention. I find out later that 12 out of 14 students missed the assignment and that the teacher incorrectly listed the assignment on the school website. The kids laughed as each kid walked thru the door completely ignorant of the assignment. Instead of dealing with her own mistake, the teacher punished.

Back to football....who is the DB coach?

Belichick's misses have, interestingly, come with players that a lot of posters didn't want because they had other preferences. For all the "Hindsight!" stuff, the reality is that a lot of the Patriots misses have been pretty widely panned and/or questioned by the laypeople even at the time they happened.

That's not to say that the layperson has been right on everything or the BB's off-the-track picks never pan out, but BB seems to miss a lot more often when he tries to out-think the room and/or looks to be over-reliant on raw numbers.

I wouldn't say it's the professor that's failing. If it were the professor, then the students would be fine once they went to a different class. That hasn't really been the case, though. If anything, blame the admissions department.

Time to bring back Hank Poteat.

Seriously, this secondary makes me miss Ellis Hobbs.
