Pats picked as one of 8 teams with no shot at a SB this year

Nah not really. Zappe has an uphill battle to stay in the league at all IMO.

I suppose in theory they could let Zappe take over if they decide Jones isn’t the guy and they want a shot at Caleb Williams with the first overall pick in 2024… could be a sound strategy.
Stick with your boy Alabama

Top 5 draft slot for the 2024 draft.

2001 is not a good comparison. Leaving Brady out of this since I don't think he was the difference maker that many do (yes, he was very good, but nowhere near what he would become). People forget how the Pats brought in so much talent that season to totally retool especially the defense. It was a long time ago, but after that year, Belichick and Pioli were praised for bringing in all these difference makers for pennies on the dollar including Mike Vrabel, David Patton, Roman Phifer, Bryan Cox, Mike Compton, Antowan Smith, Marc Edwards, and Anthony Pleasant.

This year, the Patriots were relatively quiet in free agency and mostly are bringing back the same team from last year. Some players may improve quite a bit and the rookie class is promising, but it won't be like 2001.

You have it mixed up.

Corky is reactionary which is why he is sacked so much and throws INTs in bunches. By the time he decides to throw, the defense is in closing distance for the easy take away.

You are confused. The same guy that identified T Brady can not identify Zappe? Thinking you are the smartest person in the room is on brand.

Is anyone really surprised? We are picked to finish last in our division by most pundits. As always, the games are still played and we will find out soon enough.

A few observations from that Pitt playoff game:
- Troy Brown in his prime was such a stud
- Tebucky and that whole defensive backfield loved to hit
- the difference between Brady's polished footwork and Beldsoe's plodding was striking
- that said, for Drew to come in cold off the bench and produce in that situation was maybe the highlight of his career. He had a couple of iffy throws, but early in the 4th he kept a couple of drives going when the tide seemed to be turning the other way. Gutsy legendary performance.

but we know what Mac Jones is, and we know what Zappe is. So unless Matt Corral becomes the starter and blossoms into the next Brady, we know the answer
Your answer was they stunk when they were winning super bowls. You need to find your own island, import your own great players, and set up the FCB All Star team. I'm positive that you will still *****. Ain't no hope for you, Jack

Yup.
Easy to forget how filthy that hit really was.

Was it all Troy brown in this game ? Seems like a Gronk Edelman clone .

remember when journalists provided actual insight, and had football knowledge? this article would have been in-depth analysis of a handful of favorites and maybe a darkhorse pick or two, and why they all had a shot

now it's vapid articles with sensational headlines designed to grab clicks and generate controversy for twitter and "sports radio"

Cmon Patsy, the media hold grudges??????? You forget that win or lose, to the media it IS all about them. And for 20 years they have had to lay prostrate in front of the altar of Belechick and sweat for EVERY mind numbing quote that said nothing from the HC that told them IN ADVANCE that he won't say anything interesting unless its 30 minutes on the ins and outs and history of the of punt formation. So now after 2 of the last 3 seasons out of the Playoffs YOU don't think that carrying the pitchforks ANY chance they get is BEYOND them!

The old saying in Boston from back when I was growing up, "forget about the Sox, Celts, Pats, and Bruins, the REAL favorite sports in Boston are politics and REVENGE". And those are full contact sports in this town. Better batten down the Hatches, kid. It is going to get bloody.

Lol yea it doesn’t suprise me whatsoever. This tactic is a new one though. Its like a bears fan saying one of these 5 teams will win the sb - kc, sf, philly, cincy, chicago.

It'll make nice bulletin board material.

2001 wasn't all about Brady, but I feel like people are underestimating his contributions to that title a bit. He was a fringe top 10 QB that year, albeit on low volume, but he played a very efficient game, ranked 6th in the league in passer rating, 11th in DVOA and made the (actual) Pro Bowl. Now, if Brady were his 2001 version in 2023, odds are his overall numbers would look much gaudier just adjusting for passing environment and passing frequency, but back then that just wasn't the game, guys weren't slinging it around 40+ times every Sunday, so his contributions gave them a big boost on offense. He wasn't GOAT Brady, but if Mac Jones plays at that level this year (the 2023 equivalent of that level, I mean), the Patriots will very likely make the playoffs and be a tough out.

All you need to know about Brady in 2001 is that Bill went with him twice to be his starter - first, when Bledsoe was healthy enough to come back and play then second, in the SB he chose Brady with a bum ankle over Bledsoe who had just played and beat Pitt in the AFCCG.

It really doesn't matter what anyone says because nobody has any clue how this season will go.

The Pats don't look like a playoff team right now but that could easily change.
I think they’re a playoff team if they stay healthy, Mac plays mostly mistake free and the rest of the young talent contributes.

Having the talent is half the battle.

if one were into making predictions, realistically, on paper, how many teams would you give a realistic shot of actually winning the superbowl? the number is pretty small.......there's probably a handful (4-5) of teams you can say aren't playoff teams (the pats are NOT one of them), but the number who truly have a legit superbowl shot is about the same......is it possible that a team outside those 4-5 likely contenders wins it? sure.....but at this point of the season, if you really had to pick one team that was LIKELY to win the superbowl, you'd pick one of maybe 4-5 teams, tops......so the whole premise of this piece is garbage to begin with

We all remember the “Patriots are the least likely team to win a Super Bowl anytime soon” PFW article from 2001…and how that season ended.

Guess what…it’s happening again! Deja vu baby! Fire up the duck boats we’re going all the way!

I was thinking that they said the same thing about the Patriots in 2001. The difference is that this team has a lot more home grown studs than that team did.

Huh? Where is the Richard Seymour, Ty Law, Matt Light, Lawyer Milloy, Tedy Bruschi, Willie McGinest, Tom Brady level home grown talent on this team?

You have zero clue how Barmore, Gonzalez, White, Duggar, Mapu, Mac, Rhamondre, Douglas, Boutte, and the young linemen will play… absolutely no clue what they will develop into. Neither do the optimists here, but they’re not claiming to know.

The talent exists on the roster, that is more than the Cardinals or Rams can say. The Pats have young athletic horses in the barn, these two teams don’t. It doesn’t mean our young prospects will develop into great players, but it doesn’t mean they can’t or won’t.

You had no clue who Richard Seymour was in 2001, “draft experts” called him a reach. You had no clue what Brady would become, “draft experts” said he had a weak arm and no talent. We’re all experts two decades later.

My guy, I'm just wondering if you could explain to me how, having ZERO CLUE what their young guys will develop into, someone could state they are better than the bunch of homegrown Hall of Famers and All Pros they had in 2001. I'll hang up and listen. Christ almighty.
