Pats offensive line ranked 9th

Sony can’t break tackles, can’t catch the ball, and has no explosiveness around the edge. He’s part of the blame

Eye test confirms: Awful!!!!!!!!!!

Bingo. The fact that PFF would rank them 9th is evidence that PFF is garbage.

but but but Chubb....
Chubb would've made somethings out of some of those nothings through sheer power alone.

Go ahead, it's all right to admit it: Bill chose the wrong UGA RB.

This is a great point. The success of the run game last year for example was predicated largely on having a really good OL, the best blocking TE in history, and a tremendous fullback, all operating together. Of those seven players (Brown, Thuney, Andrews, Mason, Cannon, Gronk, Develin), the Pats are without four of them this year (Brown, Andrews, Gronk, Develin). Their replacements haven't been anywhere close to as good. That's going to have an impact on the run blocking for sure.

And Allen makes 5.

Michel has lost yards on 16 carries this season. He lost yards on just 12 plays last season despite 209 carries.

It'll be interesting to see what adjustments if any are made to the D front. Washington ran pretty decent as did Cleveland with the #22 OL.

Was inflated by 2 runs.

Take Chubb's 44 yard run out. He had 19 carries for 87 yards. 8 of them for 3 yards or less.

Take out the WR end around in the Washington game and they had 80 yards on 19 carries

Now looking at this thread there is a handful of people saying Michel sucks well. Now if 80 rushing yard games are decent then half of Michel's games this year have been decent

They owe Brady a gift for this high of a ranking.

ypc is always inflated by big runs. Nobody in the NFL is going to 6 yards every carry consistently.

A couple of points.

1.) health has been the biggest issue with the o line thus far. With thuney, cannon and mason all having injury issues.

2.) Newhouse is a joke. Wynn should be an instant upgrade.

3.) at the beginning of the year, karras appears to have had issues with line calls. Now Brady is helping him out and things look better.

in summary, the line’s play has been negatively impacted by injuries, ir, retirements and bad trades. Meanwhile Newhouse still sucks.

Newhouse got picked of the street, he is supposed to suck. However he could be a competent swing OT.

Ok, you've given the reasons. That doesn't make them any better.

Let's be real here. BB could have traded draft pick(s) to upgrade the line. He didn't have to take off the street free agents. Oh, he did?

Well, perhaps Belichick might have used more than a 4th, For the 3 trades, we used a 6th and a 4th (for Cunningham, Bodine and Eluemunor). So, is terrible;y unreasonable to expect more?

I chalk that ranking up to a combination of "it's foolish to trust PFF to evaluate OL" and "Brady makes them look better than they are".

At no point since Wynn went down has this OL come close to passing the eye test.

Oh I dunno. Kansas City does.

he's not a good back. Looking around the NFL, a RB either needs great speed to burst through the hole or great strength to break tackles. Sony has neither..he's just a JAG.

Should have taken Chubb

That’s very interesting. So if you take Chubb’s biggest runs out, his average goes down? Wow. That’s crazy. Never thought of that.

I have it on good authority that Newhouse is "fine" so I don't know what all the yammering is about.

Oh and thank God we still have Dorsette. :D:D

Maybe but that doesn't make Sony a bad pick. One thing I love about Sony is his decision making and ball security. If there's a crease he'll find it. Unfortunately there hasn't been much to find this year. It'll get better.
