Pats not trading Garoppolo - Schefter

I can't be sure
Lets take emotion aside 41 Year old TB after this year 26 Year old Grap
I think alot of fans know how BB will end this movie and spoiler alert its a tear jerker.
If they trade Grop then obvioisly TB is playing at least 3 more seasons.

I think BB wants at least another year to evaluate all 3 QBs and thats smart in my opinion.
BB isn't dumping the GOAT QB when he is playing at this level to take a shot on a kid who has played 1 1/2 games in 5 years.

Sure you can keep the kid this year, but you don't need him this year, and the only way to keep him beyond that is to break the bank for an unproven guy, while cutting the GOAT.
BB is too smart for that.

I agree. If Brady is good to go after next year then franchise Jimmy and get what you can, perhaps a high first or second but if Tom is not doing well then franchise and transition to Jimmy. That peace of mind is worth it unless there is an offer you can't refuse.

This may turn out to be true but I can also see the Pats feeding Schefter complete and utter ******** if it serves their purposes. I won't believe any of this drivel until week two.

Schefter didn't say his source was within the Patriots organization, he said it was " a league source."

More lies from GOONdell.

To me I get the sense from Lombardi and others that The Pats know JG is a stud and are sending a message to other teams in the context of: you passed on D Carr and this is your second chance sweepstakes. Come strong or dont come at all.

This is what makes sense to me, they are upping the ante as high as possible.

Can a league source work for the Patriots?

At the beginning of the season Lombardi said something to the effect:
"If Garoppolo is as good as everyone in the building thinks he is...."

They see Garoppolo as the next Tom Brady (blasphemy, I know).
During the first 2.5 games he looked the part.

You don't trade away the next franchise QB.

Purely a guess on my part...Brady gives it 2 more years to get ring #6.
If he gets #6 next year...he hangs it up.
Too much pressure on the home front.

Plus, BB has stated repeatedly you don't go into the season without depth at the QB position, as with any other position.

Another team will need to make an offer as if they are getting the next Tom Brady. I don't see that happening.

For selfish reasons I hope it doesn't happen. If they can figure out a way to hang onto Jimmy I see another 10 years of sustained excellence...then watch some heads explode.

I have told my coworkers for a few years the next Tom Brady is in the pipeline. After seeing JG play, I believe that even more.

The only way keeping him makes sense it to give him a long term extension during 2017 and tell Brady thanks but we have had enough of you.
Is there any chance of locking him up to a deal similar to the one Nick Foles had? I think it was somewhere around high end backup money (6m a yr).

It's obviously not good value and I doubt that Belichick would want to pay that much to someone sitting on the bench, but this is a bit of a unique situation and it's certainly possible the idea of a transition is at least being considered. Of course, the biggest obstacle may be JG wanting to see more playing time sooner rather than later.

Any thoughts on this line of thinking?

That is a concern for me as well, in the sense that I could see that chatter gaining a lot of traction as they approached the SB again. The idea of winning 3/4 yrs and six total may be enough to force both Belichick and Brady to strongly consider it, not to mention the nudge from Gisele.

The guy you quoted is absolutely correct. When the big money has to flow to JG, Brady will be 41 and JG will be 26. And there is no chance in hell BB is basing this decision off of less than 1 1/2 games. He has seen JG enough to know better than any of us. So if BB think holding on to JG this year is the best decision for the football team. I would agree with BB.

There are multiple things to consider. Firstly what are the best offers the Pats are getting for JG? Lets say the best offer is a 2 and a 3rd round pick.. at the same time your thinking Brady is going to be 41 when we trade away our young possible franchise QB..

Is it worth to trade away a potential franchise QB for an extra 2nd round pick?

Honestly I think they are going to roll the dice this season and see how TB plays and then make a huge decision before the 2018 season.

They could franchise JG for 1 more year and hold on to him.. or trade him or the most logical decision is to move on from Brady when he is 41 years of age.

Now this only makes sense if they truly believe JG is a franchise QB.

41 year old Brady
26 year old JG

Not to mention Brady's wife.. She is already asking him to retire now. What is it going to be like in 2 years?

Maybe. But I honestly think they will hold on to JG and I have been saying that for the last few months. I could be wrong though.

I think this is a reasonable position for the Pats to take. Father time is undefeated, and as well as Brady takes care of himself, at some point his skills will decline, or he could get an injury which causes him to hang em up.

How would we all feel if it happens next year, and we need to hope Brissett can quickly become our new franchise QB, while Jimmy is lighting it up and making us wish we had never traded him.

I can see the Pats trading him for the right offer, but it's looking like a team will really need to offer a deal that BB can't refuse.

Go big or don't go at all.

Tom Brady is the greatest QB of all time. There is no "next Tom Brady in the pipeline." It is entirely possible we never see this level of talent at that position again in our lifetimes.

It blows my mind how many people want to have it both ways by saying Brady is the GOAT but, at the same time, he will be easy to replace with this guy who played all of 6 quarters.

If he wins again next year-- I don't think there is anyway he won't go for the three peat!!!

There is no "next Tom Brady."

I take Brady at his word that he wants to play to 44-45 and will re-evaluate it then. And given how well he has played the past three seasons and the way he works and takes care of himself there is no reason he won't continue to play at the highest level. His game is based upon his football I Q and his accuracy, and there's no reason either will deteriorate overnight. Their OL is young and just getting better, their running game and passing game out of the backfield are really strong, he gets Gronk back next season, and his receivers are excellent. They will have a top 3 scoring offense again next season and for as long as Brady is behind center imo.

I love the idea of the Patriots ramping up Garrapolos trade bounty but I still believe they would take a top 3 pick in a heartbeat, and the Browns #12 plus an additional high pick (2nd or 3rd in 2018). However if no one is willing to give them that kind of payoff they will sit tight and keep him through his contract.

And you'd be right there to watch it in person again, you sonofa*****.

I don't think anyone is saying that. Its just business. If they trade or move on from Brady when he is 41 years old its because they think they can sustain success for the long term. Brady most likely has 3 years left man. And we have no idea when his fast ball goes.

If they traded Brady I would root for Brady where ever he went. I would hope he wins another Super Bowl.
I am not saying they will trade Brady but I can see this happening.

If they trade Brady while he is still playing at a high level I will probably be done with the Patriots and football. F.cking over a guy who brought 5 Lombardi's to New England would be more than I could stomach.
