Pats not trading Garoppolo - Schefter

If not by that freaking injury Jimmy is 4-0 with amazing numbers and we are talking about 2 1st round picks.

This says to me people are calling with offers of 2nd round picks and Bill is not so subtly telling them its gonna take a lot more then that. Just normal bartering and salesmanship nothing to see here

The feeling I get from perusing the messageboards of the teams who are considering Jimmy is that they are expecting to get him for quite a bit less than we Pats fans hope for, or that rumors suggest.

Now these are just fans of course, but they almost seem to take a cheap acquisition if Jimmy as an afterthought while drooling over what else they can get in the draft.

They need to get disabused of the idea that the Pats are desperate to dump Jimmy and will accept whatever spare change they can find in their sofas, in exchange.

lol ya right, when a team offers something the Pats like he'll be gone

The whole farm. One first rounder's not enough. He want's multiple picks and rightfully so. The browns have all the ammo but they're such a joke. Not only they have the picks but tons of cap space to go out there and put players on offense.

Anyone fan who says Brady will fall off a cliff and should be traded or something of that sort. Where's your sense of loyalty. 5 super bowl wins. Bust his ass every season. If he falls sucks next year who cares. I can live with a few bad seasons for all the good ones we have had but it will never come to that because we have BB to help us adjust with better a more dominant run game and such.

Not many teams have the management and coaching smarts of the Patriots. That's why the other teams are " Also Rans" every season wishing it was their team in the hunt for a Lombardi and saying " If Only" ......

Something I've come to think - your post really encapsulates it, as does Lombardi's quoted tweet above - is that perhaps there's just no way to bridge the distance between what the Patriots know about JG and what the rest of the NFL scouts can discern based upon his relatively small in-game sample size.

Put another way, if the 49ers knew what the Patriots knew, then maybe they'd be willing to give up a #3 pick for a guy who will play like an upper tier starter for the entirety of a 5 year contract. They don't know that though, and they don't want to take the risk of guessing and striking out at such a high cost - hence an unbridgeable gap between the cost to acquire JG and the ability for another team to feel confident in surrendering the necessary cost.

I'm glad BB doesn't get caught up in media hype to plan for the future of the team.

I care. I only want to keep Brady while he is good. I think he'll still be very good for a few more years, which is why I want BB to keep him. No loyalty. Winning is always better - no matter what. I love me some Brady. GOAT. But I love winning way more than I love Brady. Always win. Keep Brady to win. Do not keep him "for loyalty".

At the risk of looking really, really, really (you can add a few more "really's") dumb in a couple of weeks, this is what I have thought would happen. Why?

Belichick is not enamored of high first round picks; too much risk for his appetite. But, other GM's also know that and so he'd have a hard time trading down for full value. Also, this is a draft that is unremarkable for high profile "skill" positions, but very deep elsewhere.

Brady has defied all odds, making Peyton Manning's noodle arm at the age of 39 look almost comical. But TB12 is now in unknown territory. Next year, he'll be playing a full 16 week schedule, with the Bye probably coming early in the Season after it was in Week Nine (or so) in 2016. Last year, he (unwillingly) played a 15 game season, including the Playoffs, with three Byes (one after four weeks, the second after eight weeks and the third after the Divisional and Conference Rounds). I'm not saying that he's not going to be Great Again, so no flames, please. But there are many unknowns.

Belichick and Josh have seen enough of Garoppolo to have made a decision about him. If they didn't think he was a Franchise QB and that they might need him in the next couple of seasons, they'd trade him now.

If BB can't get his perceived trade value right now , there might a desperate team looking for a quality starting QB after training camp / preseason evaluations and injuries?

BB's phone will start ringing when Trubisky measures in at 6'1.25" at the combine

Do any teams really care about what the losers on message boards think and have that factor into their personnel decisions?

"Hey our scouts are really impressed with his quick release and the people who have played with him think he's very coachable . . . .but some anonymous poster in our fansite under the name "diecheatriotsdie" seems to believe that we're fools if we give up anything more than a 7th round pick in the 2021 draft for him."

I'll believe it in September. Until then, it's all blather.

I would guess teams have been offering 2nd round picks and they aren't taking them seriously. If teams get up into the top 15 it will change in a hurry.

@RyanHannable
Adam Schefter on @OMFonWEEI: "Jimmy Garoppolo is going to be on the Patriots in 2017 no matter who calls them and what anybody offers."

Kind of a shocking statement, but one that establishes why Schefter would report this in the first place. He obviously knows everything that people here are posting - "oh this is just Belichick posturing to get the price tag right" - does Schefter like being used by sources in such a fashion? I doubt it. If JG gets traded after Schefter reports something like this, then it makes Schefter look poorly informed, which we can probably agree he's not.

So, if Schefter got information that the Patriots really, really aren't going to trade JG - then it makes sense:
a) for him to make the initial report that he did; and
b) to say what you've quoted him saying.

By a league source???
What league source would the Patriots confide in? Is there anyone in the league that the Pats would trust with this info.

That's about as far from Belichick operating philosophy as it gets.

Maybe bill knows something we don't? Brady playing one more year maybe? Idk. People wanna get rid of this kid easily.

From Reiss's latest article..

Next a live shot from Gillette of BB.
