Pats [make offer to] Stallworth

Re: Patsf sign Stallworth

I wouldn't call Stallworth and Welker completely set at WR.
Didn't the Dolphins just lose their top 2 pass catchers from 2006? You wish you were as set as the Pats would be after adding Stallworth and Welker.

You had a good defense and a crappy offense. You trashed your already bad offense to make it Brown and 10 stumble-bums, and you talk about the Pats?

Re: Patsf sign Stallworth

Jeff Fisher = most over rated punk HC in the NFL.

Exactly. So if Donte's just chasing the money then he should go do it. I'd rather have him come back humbled (if he comes back) than to have had him sign immediately then eventually turn into a malcontent. I'm sure by the time I'm done typing this there will be more news or the thread will be locked:bricks:

Re: Patsf sign Stallworth

Meachum can run routes. Mcknight from ND as well.

Re: Patsf sign Stallworth

But I'd much rather draft Meacham than sign Stallworth.

I ACTUALLY AGREE!

YES

i agree with someone on here about something:woohoo: :woohoo:

Re: Patsf sign Stallworth

Sorry this guy would be a major upgrade in the WR department.. I still want him on the team, and I can only hope that he signs by Friday.. But histroy I think presents itself, that once a FA leaves town, he does not sign here...

Re: Patsf sign Stallworth

That's a good analogy, but backwords. For it to work with the Patriots, you need to look at it from the employer's point of view.

Let's say you are ABC Corporation. A guy interviews for a job. You offer him a job. He says, "I'll get back to you. First I'm going to see if DEF Corporation and GHI Corporation will give me a better offer. If not, I'll be back."

Do you think when he comes back a week later and say, "Well, nobody would pay me as much as you guys offered, so I guess I come to work here after all." that the offer will still be open?

Only if ABC Corporation desparately needs him, and if that were the case, they would have offered him more not to go to DEF Corp.

I think the only way you can get more money out of a potential employer is to threaten to go elsewhere. If they want you bad enough they will pay for you not to go. Once they call your bluff and let you go, you won't get the same deal again. Why would you? You've just proven to the company that no one else thinks your are worth that kind of money.

But I don't own the Patriots, so what do I know?
I would be put off if he put it that way, but if he was somebody I really wanted to hire and he said, "I appreciate your offer. I have another interview in two days and I would like to see what the other situation is before making up my mind", I would say, "Go ahead, and let us know in two days. We'll keep the offer open until then."

That is not a hypothetical situation - during my career I have been on the hiring end dozens of times looking to hire talented engineers. We're not talking about a job flipping burgers - burger flippers are a dime a dozen - we're talking about highly skilled people with unique talents. If you really want a guy you give him a little leeway.

Re: Patsf sign Stallworth

I think I have it figured out. Rosenhaus didn't tell Comcast that Stallworth signed with the Pats, he said they signed with the Patsf.

Lol. Go Patsf!

I agree with you, PromisedLand. Who cares if he's talking to multiple teams. I'm more worried about things like his durability than I am about whether he's trying to get the best offer for himself. As long as it doesn't drag out (and it doesn't sound like it will), I'm fine with that.

That's right. It all depends on the industry and the company. I've had two weeks to decide once. Although it was between my current employer at the time and the one making the offer, I was able to get more out of that negotiation.

Stallworth signs with NE?

Just saw a blurb on NESN's bottom line "The Edge" that said Stallworth has agreed to a deal with the Patriots. Source is ComcastSports.net

Re: Stallworth signs with NE?

Probably old stuff as they had that on their website earlier but took it down.

Re: Stallworth signs with NE?

No. Read some of the other million threads .

Re: Patsf sign Stallworth

People are jumping the gun.

Per PFT:

STILL NO DEAL FOR STALLWORTH

Contrary to a report on ComcastSportsNet.com that receiver Donte' Stallworth has a deal with the New England Patriots, Profootballtalk.com has learned that there is no agreement.

ComcastSportsNet.com says that the deal was "confirmed . . . by the office of Drew Rosenhaus, Stallworth's agent."

Well, we tracked down Rosenhaus personally, and he told us: "There is no deal, and nothing is imminent."

Stallworth visited with the Patriots on Tuesday, and will next visit with the Titans, and then with the Dolphins. No decision on his next destination is expected until the end of the week, at the earliest.

[UPDATE: ComcastSportsNet.com has revised its story, calling the reports of a deal 'premature." In true Tribune-Review fashin, the reference to confirmation from the office of Drew Rosenhaus has been scrubbed out of the story.]

Re: Patsf sign Stallworth

Very simple. Rosenhaus is using the Pats' interest to legitimize his questionable client. After the Starks debacle, I'm surprised they would deal with him.

Thats exactly what I think, too. They had New England lined up first as his place to visit. Why? Its possible that Stallworth really does want to play here more than anywhere else but Philly, but its equally possible that they wanted to move on to other teams (that they knew would pay more) after getting an offer from the Pats. Now some of those other teams might be thinking that if the Pats want Stallworth, he must be desirable.
