Re: Patsf sign Stallworth
Look at another way. You go for a job interview. When you hear that the company is planning to interview several other candidates before making a decision, do you get miffed and withdraw your name from competition?
It's the same thing.
That's a good analogy, but backwords. For it to work with the Patriots, you need to look at it from the employer's point of view.
Let's say you are ABC Corporation. A guy interviews for a job. You offer him a job. He says, "I'll get back to you. First I'm going to see if DEF Corporation and GHI Corporation will give me a better offer. If not, I'll be back."
Do you think when he comes back a week later and say, "Well, nobody would pay me as much as you guys offered, so I guess I come to work here after all." that the offer will still be open?
Only if ABC Corporation desparately needs him, and if that were the case, they would have offered him more not to go to DEF Corp.
I think the only way you can get more money out of a potential employer is to threaten to go elsewhere. If they want you bad enough they will pay for you not to go. Once they call your bluff and let you go, you won't get the same deal again. Why would you? You've just proven to the company that no one else thinks your are worth that kind of money.
But I don't own the Patriots, so what do I know?
