In sum, it is peanuts. Don't let the weekly raise fool you.

Your boss:
1) Enjoy the raise, because after a few more weeks, we are going to stop paying you altogether until next summer.
2) Oh, and by the way, the odds on you being with us next autumn are very slim.
3) In fact, the odds of you being in this profession in two years are slim as well.
4) Oh, and by the way, the odds of you leaving with a life long injury or two are pretty high, and you probably won't be around long enough to get any health care coverage for it from us.
5) Maybe you are thinking you should have gotten a real college degree now, instead of the football one you got at that football factory school you went to?

Sorry man, no matter how much we idealize it, the reality for the players who don't get significant contracts is pretty grim.

I'd gladly take a 6 figure a year, for a couple of years, on a practice squad of a team that includes Brady, Gronk, Revis, Wilfork etc, and with a chance to be coached up by BB.

Not to mention if the Pats win a SB, they get a ring as well. I don't see the negative in any of this..

cheap ass kraft. stupid patriots, should have taken then 30k per game and given it to Vjax.

Are you proposing that they contribute to some sort of Vincent Jackson Charity?? Or chipping in to bump his salary in Tampa??

Not sure I want a WR with a 12 million dollar cap hit on this team.

Honestly, Jake is living the dream. Drafted in the third round and paid just to practice hard til this day. He may also be the healthiest bust of all time.

The Pats frequently do this type of thing. Is this common among other teams?

i was being sarcastic. I also don't want a WR in his 30's for 12m a year

The more you argue that these guys aren't being paid enough, the bigger a deal the $30K is.

And by the way, if they don't play in games their chance of seriously disabling injury is down, full-pads practices notwithstanding. Also, even a marginal NFL/practice squad career probably helps with future career prospects in areas such as coaching.

Exactly. With the restrictions of the new CBA, I bet you are more likely to suffer a serious practice injury in high school than in the NFL.

The patriots seem to pay more for Practice Squad players than other teams do. This is not unusual for the patriots.

That being said, I believe that the patriots have paid lots more for some players, sometimes as much as rookie salary. For example, Walker might get this treatment if he were cut.

The Ravens, Broncos, Lions, and Buccaneers are paying some of their practice squad players more than the minimum. Deonte Thompson is getting 15K from the Ravens.

honestly he wold probably much rather be on the 53 man again, making more money and actually playing in the NFL
