Re: Pats Inactives: Mayo, Galloway, Brace, Wheatley, BJGE, Simmons, Ohrnberger, Locke

I could see a lot of 2 TE sets to protect Brady with Moss and Welker (and Watson and Baker) as receivers. This is MAX-PROTECT. The 6th non-lineman would be either a TE or a RB. Either's #1 job would be to protect Brady.

its gonna be the same old set. A RB will be there to pick up any blitz, but will release 5 yards out if there is no one.

Re: Pats Inactives: Mayo, Galloway, Brace, Wheatley, BJGE, Simmons, Ohrnberger, Locke

They haven't been sending Galloway down the field though, which is likely part of the problem. They need someone to fill the Gaffney role, those are the routes Galloway's been running unsuccessfully.
It would be surprising if a novice like Edelman was successful there, but i wouldn't put anything past him. I have to remind myself the guy's a QB the way he's subbed for Welker.

That's a good point. We really haven't taken advantage of Galloway as a deep threat, and have been using him as a mid-range possession WR. Gaffney was much better suited to that role. Not sure that it's Galloway's fault not to have "picked up" the offense as much as the Pats' fault not to use him effectively.

33 year veteran? Holy crap, that's gotta be a record!

He declared early out of Kindergarten.

I'd love to see them play a conservative running, short passing game. I think that would do a hell of a lot more to open up shots for Moss than anything else.

When he was signed, I assumed he'd be stretching the field, but what has Galloway run? Two patterns more than 20 yards down field? Waste of his talent. Hopefully Edelman can fill Gaffney's role and Galloway can just be the fourth WR who stretches Ds.

Meanwhile, my buddy is a diehard Broncos fan and he is loving Gaffney ....

Re: per Reiss on TV: Wilfork and Welker

As I recall, the Giants did ok the last time they faced the Ravens - over 200 yards rushing last year in a dominating win. I'd take that.

Seriously, if Matthews can help keep Suggs away from Brady and help take on Ngata in the running game, he will be huge.

MC, why is it that your thoughts always beat mine to this server? Could not have said it better my friend. Matthews was a huge pickup, and I am stoked to see him live.

It's no secret that the team needs a flanker. I don't think that they have one on the roster, either. Maybe Tate will come on at some point, but until then, it is safe to assume that the X isn't going to bring much production to the offense.

As I said in a previous post, find someone for the Gaffney role, then we have a Galloway available for what he's good at. Not like we don't use enough multiple receiver formations.

That's because you go for detailed and thoughtful analysis while I go for the quick jab.

We actually had a guy that would have filled that role on the roster. His name was Greg Lewis.

Lewis did nothing in training camp. Everyone said he was a bum and a waste of a 5th round pick and that we should cut him. Then we did, and he caught one (deep) miracle pass from Lord Favre last week and now suddenly the FO are boobs for having given up on him.

Re: Pats Inactives: Mayo, Galloway, Brace, Wheatley, BJGE, Simmons, Ohrnberger, Locke

We ran primarily 2 TE sets against Atlanta and 1 TE sets against the jets. So, there is no "same old set"

In any case, I think that 1 TE, 3 WR sets would be a mistake against BALT. Under most game situation, I would much, much rather have a second TE on the field than a third wide receiver. The 2 TE set has great flexibility, since both our TE's are both decent receivers and solid blockers.

its gonna be the same old set. A RB will be there to pick up any blitz, but will release 5 yards out if there is no one.

+2. When I saw he was active last week, I knew the Pats would be committed to the run and win. Hopefully this will be two weeks in row I am right.

Funny RT from Vince Wilfork's wife Bianca: Not sure if i like u playig today but its not like u have your phone so we can talk about it

I've seen PatriotsToday videos with Vince and the Misses in them. She's quite the character and he readily admits that it is she who wears the pants in that household.

I wouldn't ever want to get on Bianca's bad list!

Interesting. No Galloway. That is not a good sign.

I disagree....Galloway has done nothing to earn his keep really....whether his was being used incorrectly as a possession type versus deep threat or not....too many drops and missed routes.

This doesn't factor a negative for the Pats at all.
