Pats file complaint against the Colts

Gotta love it now that Curran has a national audience

Five reasons the Patriots get under the Colts' skin

1. Winning.

The Patriots have won three Super Bowls.

The Colts have won one.

In 1970.

When they were in Baltimore.

Ok, I guess I am not off the hook. If possible lets agree to disagree.

IMO the Patriots are not as strong of a team without Branch. If the Pats did nothing, they would have Branch back in 4 weeks and would be in a better position to compete for a championship. Had both sides been able to reach a suitable contract the Patriots would be a better team this year and in future years. By letting him go out and set the market they lost some leverage, and did very well to get a first round pick. The FO is excellent but not perfect.

The FO is excellent, but not perfect.

He and Chayut refused to even negotiate. You can't talk interior design with a pyromaniac. The two sides weren't going to agree. Branch feels he should be paid top 7 money. The Pats felt (IMHO, rightly so) that he's a top 17-25 WR.

Having Branch back after week 10 AGAINST HIS WILL would be a far less advantageous situation for the Patriots than getting a 1st rounder next year.

Short-term: Media circus and big distraction
Long-term: Branch would be gone baby gone next year anyhow.

Give me "Rip off the bandage now and get me the 1st rounder next year" anyday of the week.

God Bless Tom Curran, my new favorite sports writer. Screw Polian.

Reiss updates the situation:

"Belichick was asked about a report on NBCsports.com that the Patriots have spoken with the NFL about protecting their employees when Colts president Bill Polian comes to town on Nov. 5. Belichick smiled, then said spokesman Stacey James would handle that line of questioning. The NBCsports.com report indicated that the Patriots were likely tweaking the Colts, as Polian was believed to have spoken with the league about the condition of the Gillette Stadium playing field. Polian reportedly had a run-in with a Jets employee at a game in New York on Oct. 1."

This is great. Even BB is smiling about this. I just wish he would answer this line of questioning rather than a spokesperson. I hope BB gets bombarded with questions about this at the press conference to a point where he decides to speak his mind about it.

And yet another glimpse of BB's humor

The issue of the Patriots’ security request to the league on Bill Polian was brought up, and Belichick said he’d rather direct questions to head-of-PR Stacey James. But check this out: When the 1990s Bills came up, Belichick was asked if the four-time AFC Champions were the best team he’d seen not to win a Super Bowl. The coach scuffled a bit before emphasizing that three of the four Bowls they lost “weren’t real competitive.†The GM of those Buffalo teams? You got it. Polian.

Look at it this way. Polian and the Colts are Alpha Betas. The Patriots are the Tri-Lams. Polian has had the ear of Dean Ulich (the NFL Commissioner's office) and has done everything he can (rule changes, complaints, etc) to make it so the Tri-Lams can't succeed. Yet, at every turn, the Tri-Lams are one step ahead and succeeding and looking like heroes for doing so.

Sorry, this situation is way more Animal House than Revenge of the Nerds.

Exhibit A of a Columnist who filed his work too early yesterday:

Bob Kravitz: Indianapolis Star, October 20, 2006

http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061020/COLUMNISTS01/610200399/1100/SPORTS03

"That whole dust-up with a Jets employee that was reported by foxsports.com, well, we didn't see it and haven't had it confirmed by anybody on the record, so that's gone nowhere."

Bwahahahaha.....

Kravitz is a tool. This is typical. His M.O. is a pot stirring guy that lacks a lot when it comes to being a sports writer. Really does he write anything that his readers agree with, or enjoy for that matter.

It doesn't get any better than this. I hope his head explodes.

And lets not forget, the Patriots also filed tampering charges againts the Jest. Where that situation is, I don't know. But, the Patriots aren't afraid to get into a little psy-war when it serves them.:rocker:

Belichick likely deferred to Stacey James on the complaint about the Colts - which Belichick did not deny - because the request to the NFL would come from a Patriots executive, not the coaching staff.

I don't think BB and SP should have filed this complaint. Now it will give NaPolian a way to file countercharges saying that his QB's safety from Pats Defense must be assured before they will show up for the game! HA HA (NaPolian chuckles while wringing his hands in the corner of his darkened office), I've got those !@#$$#@! Patriots right where I want them!!

thanks for the post. i laughed out loud at work when i read it. i have never understood people (usually dimwitted national media) that dont get how funny belichik is. he has ALWAYS been funny since hes been with the Pats. very dry,sly humor. ive always found him much funnier than the Tuna ever was-along with being a superior coach. even sweeter that it comes vs. the org. i loathe the most in the nfl-the "oh, please dont hit me i'm a finesse football-player colts". if they had their way all nfl teams would have to wear tutus and all players would have to follow miss manners proper ettiquette-keeping their pinky fingers extended while throwing or catching a football-tackling would be banned-too"brutish"-instead, defensive players would stop offensive players by "spritzing" them with flowery perfume.

How lame is this?

I think we should have a Scott Pioli show.

He has both a TV and radio show. The Colts situation is one of the few in the league where you'd see this. Tony is not the type of guy that would want his own show and Polian loves the media spotlight. It works out for Colts' fans, since the beat writers in Indy aren't known for their inside info, this give them a way to get some team news. Once you filter through the crap (insert punchline here).

The ring that the gentleman in this picture is wearing ... it wouldn't, by any chance, be a Superbowl ring?

No, I thought not.

You are mistaken Sir.
I have it on good authority that this ring is indeed a Super Bowl XXXVI Ring.
Purchased on Ebay from Leonard Myers.
And he wears it with pride.
