Patriots Player Departure Pats cut Antonio Gibson

Was the reason why we won that early seaosn Miami game.

Really liked the guy, sucks to see him go. But probably the right move all things considered. Probably means we’ll be in the market for another RB in FA, draft, or both.

Yeah, I have to think it's at least partly medical if they're doing it now.

FWIW it creates about $2.5M in cap space [his $3.5M salary minus replacement] and leaves $1M in dead money.

Sad but predictable end to his tenure here.

Enjoyed watching him suit up for the Pats.

Hope he gets a crack at a role somewhere soon, by all accounts he was a positive influence for teammates + well liked.

I don’t like this injuries happen and he was a good kick returner, getting younger and cheaper it seems like.

Kinda sad, just because he helped bring veteran stability in a couple really shaky years. But, truth is, he might not be the same again, even though he's not that old. If Larison is RB3, that would be great.
Henderson needs to get more consistent and specialized.

They have tough decisions to make, this was one of them. Vrabel is going to have to make decisions like this to move the team forward. Taking the sentiment out of it when guys have given everything they have for you is incredibly hard, but you have to do it to create great team's. Having Wolf, Cowden, and Streicher there to help take the sentiment out of these decisions is a big help to Vrabel, as they can bring clarity to it as a group. And even though he can use Wolf to be the bad guy my guess is that Vrabel actually does the deed himself.

Too bad. Before his injury, he was arguably playing like the Patriots' best RB.

I get it though. He most likely wouldn't be the same player this year after his injury and he does save over $3 million against the cap.

Doesn't prevent them from signing him back later in the offseason for less money.

Makes sense. I am a liiiiiiitle surprised just because the savings are pretty immaterial and there was no guarantee trigger so I figured it might be a situation where they just brought him to camp and see how he looked.

It's not so much a surprise that they'd move on from Gibson. The question is why NOW? What's the hurry. He was one of my binkies going into the season and seemed to have found a great role on the offense as well as ST's. Sad ending to a what MIGHT have been.

I was wondering what theyd do here, at his age thats a really tough injury. Hopefully Larison is ready to go and we can add a mid rd /lower rd pick for more depth

I expected this. I've been mocking a late rd RB for us in anticipation.
If Singleton gets to the 4th rd, I would jump all over that.

My guess is that he "failed" whatever end of year physical and it allowed the Pats to cut him. He's free to sign with whomever he wants when he's healthy.

He was a solid backup and he was big loss to the backfield.
