Wow! I finally finished reading this thread.

There's a few points I'd like to make.

First, I lost my best friend 42 years ago on Christmas when he got drunk and killed himself by slamming into a pole on North Shore Rd in Revere. I still miss him. I only mention that so everyone understands that I'm totally against driving drunk.

However, there are a lot of assumptions being made about Floyd's condition at the time of this incident. Yes, he most likely had been drinking before this happened and was probably over the limit, but we don't really know for sure how drunk he was.

Falling asleep behind the wheel is actually pretty common. I remember having some issues with that over the years, but my father was one of the worst. I can remember being in the car with him as he drove on Route 93 and I had to keep talking to him to keep him awake. He used to work odd shifts and had some trouble staying awake at different times.

I remember some judge got caught driving drunk many years ago and he refused to take the field test. That told me that if I ever got in that situation I would take that same approach. A judge should know the best way to handle that. Thankfully it never happened.

As for Saturday and his sidekick Polian. I used to have some empathy for Saturday from the time Polian decided to tank the perfect season in Indy in 09. I can still see the look on Saturday's face when he got the news on the sideline that he was being pulled. He and his teammates were expecting to make a run. Now I don't feel bad for him.

Apparently, Saturday doesn't still appreciate Kraft for helping to save football. He'd rather side with Polian who has helped ruin the game instead.

Finally, anyone who has worked for Jim Irsay has no right to talk about anyone else.

This leads to an OT question. Has Patsfans cap guru Miguel ever done an analysis of other teams' caps? It would be interesting to know how many times Elway, among others, exceeded the cap and went unpunished.

I'll bet zero

No idea.

However I did see a graphic a couple of weeks ago that had two teams under the 89% cap spend mandate. That confused me as its my understanding that is not allowed.

The deadline is in March 2017.

i dont think he play enough games to qualify for the pats for us to get an sup pick

This is incorrect. Players who spent the entire season on IR qualify to be counted in the compensatory pick calculation.

not meant to focus on the word played, but on a roster?

so if a team cuts player a during week 17 and team b claims him, Does team B qualify for comp picks (assuming he finished his contract that year)?

or does he need to be on a roster for a set amount of games to qualify?

Floyd reminds me of Hikeem Nicks in his prime. Floyd might even be better.

Floyd's a much better athlete. Hasn't had a big injury like hicks. He's having a down year. Idk why. He has been inconsistent through his career. He was one of my favorites wrs when he entered the draft.

Yes. the player will count as a lost player for Team B

Jim Ursay is example number one that there are 2 legal systems in the US. One for the rich and one for everyone else. The death of his mistress being a perfect example, as well as his DUI and drug binge. If Aaron Hernandez had been a owner in the NFL, he'd be at the next league meetings in Hawaii or some other resort destination, instead of in Walpole for the rest of his sorry life.

BTW- it is interesting to note that most of the media is focusing on the "high cost" of the Floyd acquisition, when nothing can be further from the truth. What is the cost of $1.3MM when the Pats had over $9MM sitting doing nothing and projects to have close to $70MM in cap space next season. It's chump change, and will have a zero effect on the Pats' ability to do anything in the upcoming FA period.

And just to get the topic going, I was thinking about what kind of prove it deal would it take to keep Floyd with the Pats beyond this season. He made about $7MM this year and thought he'd be in line for 10-14MM in the future. Well that's not happening. I think what would be fair would be offering him an incentive laden contract for next season that would allow him to make $7MM again IF he hits all his goals.

For example he gets $1MM guarateed if he makes the September 53. Then he can make an additional $6MM for some combination of games played, snaps played, receiving yards and catches. So if he has a season where he plays every game, plays in 75% of the offensive snaps, has over 11o0 yds in receptions; he will get his $7MM plus a big pay day in FA in 2018. If on the other hand he has a just decent year of 50% of the offensive snaps, 700yd yds in receptions, he could make about $3.5MM and take his chances. This is a very rough and quickly thought out estimate, but what do you think about the basic structure?

Plus in 2010 P Pat McAfee was ****faced in public pissing in the bushes and Polian took him back with open arms after he spent a game in Goody's penalty box.

He's such a dink
I wouldn't call that one the crime of the century. McAfee seems like a good dude. I thank him for not driving that night.
