which is a testament for how good things have been for the last 15 years. The same team doesn't win a Superbowl every year
Indeed. SF is behind us at 6. They were terrible before that 15 year run they went on. Them, Dallas, GB, Pitt and now us have gone on these runs. Fortunate we are my friend.:)

That list would look very different 15 years ago. We sucked for a long time.

can we get that? the list as of 2000? i'd be very interested to see it

another BB and Brady (for 20 years) and we can take the #1 spot!

This would be my dream job. Do business intelligence for the Patriots and do requests like this:

SQL query to list winningest teams since 2000

In my opinion the 'Patriots were awful their entire history before Brady' theme is overblown. Perhaps I am saying that because I'm tired of fans of other teams repeatedly trotting out that line to attempt to disparage the Pats, but to me the Patriots were not as bad as some make them out to be.

In the first forty years of existence the Patriots had 17 losing seasons.

Average? Yes.

God-awful dredges of the history of pro football? For a few terrible seasons (1970, 1972, 1990) yes.

But not for their entire existence.

We actually didn't suck nearly as bad as all the young people always seem to say. We had some spectacualy bad years, a few real bad ones. But for the most part we were average when you take the strong years like 76-86 (with 81 being an exception) and all the 8-8, years...

We are most assuredly number one with this record:

Year

Record Finish (Regular / Post Season) Coach
2015 12-4-0 1st -- AFC East 1-1 - Lost Conference Championship Bill Belichick Roster / Stats
2014 12-4-0 1st -- AFC East 3-0 - Won Superbowl Bill Belichick Roster / Stats
2013 12-4-0 1st -- AFC East 1-1 - Lost Conference Championship Bill Belichick Roster / Stats
2012 12-4-0 1st -- AFC East 1-1 - Lost Conference Championship Bill Belichick Roster / Stats
2011 13-3-0 1st -- AFC East 2-1 - Lost Superbowl Bill Belichick Roster / Stats
2010 14-2-0 1st -- AFC East 0-1 - Lost Divisional Playoffs Bill Belichick Roster / Stats
2009 10-6-0 1st -- AFC East 0-1 - Lost Wild Card Playoffs Bill Belichick Roster / Stats
2008 11-5-0 2nd -- AFC East -- Bill Belichick Roster / Stats
2007 16-0-0 1st -- AFC East 2-1 - Lost Superbowl Bill Belichick Roster / Stats
2006 12-4-0 1st -- AFC East 2-1 - Lost Conference Championship Bill Belichick Roster / Stats
2005 10-6-0 1st -- AFC East 1-1 - Lost Divisional Playoffs Bill Belichick Roster / Stats
2004 14-2-0 1st -- AFC East 3-0 - Won Superbowl Bill Belichick Roster / Stats
2003 14-2-0 1st -- AFC East 3-0 - Won Superbowl Bill Belichick Roster / Stats
2002 9-7-0 T2nd -- AFC East -- Bill Belichick Roster / Stats
2001 11-5-0 1st -- AFC East 3-0 - Won Superbowl Bill Belichick Roster / Stat

Look at all the superbowls in the top 16 on that list compared to the bottom 16

Well I did a quick spreadsheet and subtracted all the wins and losses through to 2000. (Includes 2000 season) So if I did this correctly the Patriots have moved up from 23rd to 5th in 15 years. Wow.

Note: Houston not included.

I would say the 3rd or maybe 4th most talented Patriots team of all time was the '76' Pats. The tuck rule doesn't compare to the gift the refs handed Kenny Stabler and the Raiders in the divisional round. The Pats were the only team to beat Oakland that season and they crushed them. The winner of this game was going all the way. Horrendous call gave Oakland the game and the rest is history.

A lot teams have an envious fan base

Wow, they had a lot of ties back in the old days, huh?
