He's considered the #7 TE in the league by ESPN, with Smith #9, for what that's worth. Overrated? Maybe, but BB's loved the kid since before he joined the league, from all reports. Overpaid? Maybe, but the contracts are what they are. Some are value, some not. I guess I just don't get the mindset that stresses over things like contract $$$ (unless they're crippling, which Henry's is not) or draft position. If LaCosse puts it all together and outplays Henry, then...good (unless Henry sucks, which I strongly doubt). It's like Meyers outplaying Harry. Good for Meyers, good for LaCosse, good for the Pats.I'm not worried he's going anywhere - I'm (only somewhat) worried about the lack of impact Henry has had so far, according to many reports. Smith has showed up immediately, and seems to have developed quick chemistry with Cam and Mac, but I keep hearing Henry is often invisible. So, I'd hate to see this overrated and overpaid player not produce as much as, say - LaCosse.
If Henry Anderson walks in and outplays Godchaux, I'm not going to lament the "overpay" of Godchaux; I'm going to be happy for the value of Anderson.
The pads have been on for two days, so we know next to nothing yet, but it often depends on who you're reading, I guess...Henry isn't an unknown quantity, nor was he someone being used wrong by the previous team (Vrabel, Van Noy, etc.). BB knew what he was getting.
PatsPulpit (July 29th):
Winners: TE Hunter Henry
Jonnu Smith spoke about bringing the “Boston TE Party” back to New England on Wednesday, and the team’s new tight ends continue to leave a positive impression. Smith was a bit more quiet on the second practice of camp, but Hunter Henry impressed yet again while appearing to build some early chemistry with Cam Newton in particular. He finished the session with a pair of touchdowns, as noted above, including one where he made a tough reception over safety Kyle Dugger.
