Patriots Training Camp (Day 13)

I think there's also a pretty good chance that Belichick is simply mixing things up a bit, so that different players have opportunities with the first team.

My guess is that there probably isn't much to see either way, although it certainly is worth noting just the same.

Agreed and it should be noted that there was a later tweet that Dobson was still running with the firsts. I certainly don't think anything can be deduced with any certainty from these type of tweets but they start to become more interesting if they become part of an emerging pattern.

Devin McCourty Swaps Between Cornerback, Safety As Patriots Training Camp Returns to Foxboro (Notes) | New England Patriots | NESN.com

The Patriots were running some three-man front looks while playing nickel. Marcus Benard was taking some reps at five-technique defensive end while Adrian Wilson was lining up in a hybrid-linebacker role. Wilson appeared to be playing the “money” role that Tavon Wilson held last season. The younger Wilson has not had a strong camp thus far.

Aren't the same ones that hated the Wilson pick, the ones that hated the Harmon pick?

I don't think they are capable of forethought, much less forgiveness.

I didn't like either one, but I gave Wilson a chance and I'm giving Harmon a chance. I'm definitely rooting for the kid to become the next starting safety for the team. Wilson, at this point, is looking like a lost cause. One mental error after another.

disappointing thread today

Is that because:

A) Not very much happened

B) Not a lot of interaction

C) No Tebow thread meltdown

In truth I've been following twitter and very little of any worth has been reported.

Another lame/weak practice in shells.

-Amendola caught everything and was the player of the day.

-Mesko was used as a kickoff gunner, he waved up and down to pump the crowd up.

-Gostkowski had a much better day.

-Thompkins had another solid day, just dropped a key 3rd down ball in the situational drills.

-Bolden with a rough day. He fell down on a deep pass and dropped another near the endzone.

-Blount returned a kick, lol.

-Fells with another consistent day of camp. Sudfeld made some nice catches as well.

There wasn't any 1 on 1 WR/CB action, which was disappointing.

That was one thing that I noticed as well regarding Fells. If he continues to practice well, he will make the team. He looked like he had a nice continuity with Mallett in the Philly pre-season game as well.

Makes sense since we pretty much already know what we have in Gregory.

If Harmon really steps up it could help to make Gregory expendable, but I would have to think the odds of that occuring in the next few weeks wouldn't be more than about 30/70--maybe 40/60.

I'm not saying that Harmon won't continue to improve, because I agree with you that he will, but I think it'll be difficult for Harmon to fully make Gregory expendable in such a short period of time. Just an opinion.

As much as I'd love to see Gregory off the team, there is no way we cut him. Even if Harmon does look better than him, you never know how he will play in the regular season, AND it never hurts to have safety depth. I never want to see the Ebners/Sergio/Barretts/Ventrone/Sterlings of the world every again.

Yeah, look, I don't come to this thread looking for your excuses, I come here for more awesome news like you posted last week. So chop chop, make with the cool news, pal.

A. Even if it didn't actually happen I expect to be showered with glowing tweets about how our WRs caught everything in sight.

-Bolden with a rough day. He fell down on a deep pass and dropped another near the endzone.

Actually....

"The Patriots were back on the practice field at Gillette Stadium on Monday, running a team walkthrough before the Buccaneers visit Foxboro for three days of joint practices starting Tuesday. Bolden was one of the few players who really stood out during the session, showing the type of quick bursts and footwork off the line that we haven’t seen since late last season.

Bolden took reps with both the first and second teams on Monday, consistently exploding out of the backfield and through holes along the offensive line."

He may have fell down on a passing route or whatever, but it appears as though he had one of the strongest days out of any Patriots player on Monday.

Gostkowski reportedly was very inconsistent in the beginning of practice, missing some from shorter or "normal" range; however he hit 2 of the longer variety late in practice to redeem himself.

I'm not sure I'd call that a strong showing, but we've seen plenty of conflicting reports before in training camp from different writers so this is nothing new.

Monday Patriots Training Camp Observations: 8/12/13 erek's Patriots Blog

On the other hand, Blount’s presumed competition Brandon Bolden, had a terrible day of practice Monday with several drops and lined up in the wrong spot during 11-on-11?s. He needs to make some more plays and stand out if he wants to make the team

This just shows how conflicting TC reports can be. Boyce and Dobson have had the most.

I absolutely agree. I also noted that in my Gostkowski comment right after the Bolden one. The report that I read suggested that he was off from normal range on a few kicks and was very erratic in the beginning/middle of practice, however he redeemed himself with the 2 longer kicks at the end.

I suppose that different writers tend to see things differently, which as you said is nothing new for our TC reports.

Honestly, right now Blount vs. Bolden is one of those good problems to have.

It's the antithesis of Tebow vs. Ebner vs. Tavon vs. whoever else is likely to get that 53rd spot.
