That's good to hear. Its also smart. Brown doesn't need the reps, especially with the 2nd and 3rd stringers.
Hopefully our starting ol will get some reps together in at least one preseason game. Would be tough if it waited til reg.season with the schedule being what it is. Takes a few games for an ol to get in the flow together. There's going to be a new rt.
But injuries happen. Anyone know what Onwenu is dealing with?

Onwenu had ankle surgery in the offseason. I saw that one of the Twitter DRs opined that it should be a 4 to 5 month rehab if all goes well. Not sure when the surgery was, if it was shortly after the season ended, he should be back for the 1st game. If not or if he had set backs...who knows.

I am not worried about OG we can put the Blob Mafi there it's Tackle play we are worried about.

I have no doubt the Pats D should be “fun to watch“ . but it will be interesting to see how they manage transition from toying with PS OL offence for 4 weeks to going against NFL OL offence..

-.-
With this DB group I see maybe even more blitzing than last year. It’s the NFL OL’s that will need to make adjustments to this kind of pressure. It’s bad enough they’ll have to face Judon, Uche , Barmore and White. Then it’s Dugger, Mapu, Peppers, Bentley, etc coming up the middle and blind side. Yup the QBs will be toast.

Not even clear they need to blitz that much - they should get plenty of pressures just rushing four. I'd be surprised if at least one of Judon, Uche , Barmore and White don't beat their guy on most reps. And recall Wise had 7.5 sacks too last year.

Wow, you can certainly tell the Twitter guys who are Zapp-er's and who are Mac-er's.
Some say "Zappe was steady working with starting OL"
Right after some say "Mac was 66% and it was tough day for Zappe".

I expect to see 1st quarter Mac, 2nd quarter Zappe. And then McSorely the 2nd half (maybe Zappe comes out of halftime with 1st possession?)

If Mac plays Thursday at all, I wouldn’t expect him to play more than a series or two. This is the first game of the preseason. In fact, Belichick has played starters less and less during the preseason in favor for intersquad practices.

2. Conor McDermott, Riley Reiff Stand Out in 1-on-1 Drills as Right Tackle Battle Continues

Once the three injured Patriots return to the practice field, the Patriots will have four spots along the offensive line, likely filled by Brown, Strange, Andrews, and Onwenu, leaving one open spot.

After switching back over to left tackle last season, the expectation is that Brown will remain on the left side, meaning that the vacancy in the starting lineup is at right tackle. Currently, the position battle is between veterans Riley Reiff and Conor McDermott. Although the clock is ticking, it's also possible that Calvin Anderson could enter the competition when/if he returns.

Team drills haven't been as crisp with revolving doors at other spots, but Reiff, who has primarily repped at left tackle in Brown's absence, and McDermott showed well in their four combined repetitions during one-on-one drills in Monday's sessions.

Starting with McDermott, the current right tackle won his reps against Josh Uche and rookie Keion White. Uche tried to use a speed rush on McDermott to turn the corner, but the right tackle matched Uche's foot speed, a good sign since that's been his weak point.

As for Reiff, the 14-year veteran won reps against Deatrich Wise and Anfernee Jennings. The fact that the two favorites for the right tackle job won reps against players currently projected to make the initial 53-man roster is a positive step forward. Still, offensive line play is a team game, and it's hard to get too excited when full-team drills remain uneven.

Save those sacks for the regular season even last year Judon was held in check by better Teams. Seems like we have a ways to go with these marginal back-ups.

White and Barmore up the middle will collapse the pocket and flush the QB out the back to the left and right. Uche and Judon can run the QB down. Going to be fun with White and a healthy 3rd year Barmore.

And I expect people on the GDT will complain endlessly if that doesn’t happen every play.
