Let's slow down some with that one... Jonathan didn't look real good outside the numbers last year; he's better-suited at either FS or SCB; Marcus is also better Inside than Outside; and Gonzo hasn't yet played vs anybody but his own teammates.

Agreed.
Double agree! Jon Jones is a great player, total pro, consumate patriots guy. But outside the numbers he showed ability.. but not against teams # WRS. Marcus absolutely his ability is speed and the slot is his Forte.

Gonzo is prototype of what a true outside CB is I'm the NFL.. the guy has quiet confidence, his teammates rave about him and how he picks up things. He will likely draw the top WRs.. that is how it should be, and how he's going to adapt to the NFL . Yes he's still a rookie, but he's not the typical nieve rookie. So we'll see..

I have a suspicion the Pats will try to move one of Judon or Uche for a WR on a manageable contract.

I thought this before the draft but with both coming up for new deals Patriots don’t typically pay top of market value to the same two positions.

Only example I can think of is Gronk and Hernandez,

They traded Seymour to Pay Wilfork.
They let Talib go to pay Revis.
Welker for Edelman. I get this is redundant.
I just don’t see us paying both of them.
I love Uche but he is going to command more with his youth I think if you move on you trade him.
Judon is incredibly popular and is a great example for younger players.

Thoughts?

yikes, trading Judon would be a huge mistake

Uche maybe, but he's starting to hit potential elite territory on a rookie deal, so would be nice to have his production this year

i wouldnt trade Judon tho, too important to the team, chemistry, etc and is an elite defender

Very simple reasons why those patriots greats were moved or other moves were easier to be made. The reason is.. the guy who wore #12 and retired with 7 rings.. judon is everything to this defense and this team.. I sure hope BB doesn't try to move him. BB is a smart, cerebral guy.
I know he knows the temperature of his team and the culture. If anything a small move with a lesser player is understood, but not a guy of the magnitude of judon.

I'd love it if Board were more than just a special teamer. Makes me feel a whole lot better about our LB depth.

Like Marquis Flowers was for us in 2017; though I sure wish he had turned his head around in the SB...

Justin Bethel was a recent example of a player who was “just special teams” but came to NE and played his actual position a little bit, and was decent at it. Maybe Board can be another.

Losing him to a Miami still stings.

I really hope you're wrong. Judon is the type of player BB loves. He works his ass off, according to every report. He deserves a bump in pay, because he's here on the cheap. As you said, he's a great example for the younger guys - Uche is benefitting greatly from having him on the other side of the line.

The Patriots are very light in proven vets, but have a ton of potential talent coming through the ranks on rookie deals. That homegrown talent - Uche, Barmore, Onwenu, Dugger) should be signed to second contracts, in my opinion. These guys will become the leaders of this team in short order. Supposedly, Uche's camp is talking to the Pats now. If they can't come to an agreement...well, we've seen that sad story before.

So I get your reasoning...but yeah, i hope you're wrong.

He isn't tall enough
Right, but CBs get injured, and it’s much better to have him have the versatility to do both outside and slot, rather than say he’s just slot and if we lose an outside CB we’re just SOL.

It’s training camp. It’s a good time for him to practice both.

I know it's a sucker's bet, but I'm still hoping that Shawn Wade figures it out. World of talent, size and speed. He'd be a nice piece to make sure Jon and Marcus can stay more inside.

Bolden might be that guy, too. Physically, it's all there.

This is worth monitoring makes one of Judon and Uche a trade piece

White is a quite different player than either. More like a Wise replacement (or hopefully upgrade).

White still very raw apparently - only been on the defensive side for two seasons after converting from TE. (Maybe he can be the next Vrabel and only catch touchdown passes, although Vrabel never actually played TE).

I think it’s pretty clear that Jon is better than Wade.
