Patriots Daily News Thread Patriots Training Camp: 7/25

Daily news threads with relevant news, stories, video, or additional content around the team. Feel free to contribute anything interesting you come across as well, which will hopefully make these helpful for people to keep up with what's going on with the team by having all the news in one place.

I feel like everyone is somehow, once again, underestimating just how bad the OL is going to be. Unreal that the Pats are still in this spot.

The worst lines in the league have no pro bowl caliber linemen, none or maybe one.

We have two in Onwenu and Sow assuming both continue on their former path and improve. Andrews is only a “good” athlete but an exceptional technician. They have other good to very good athletes to fill out the rest of the line if they develop and stay healthy.

I’d define them as middling in athletic talent, but execution and scheme can make that enough. Coaching and health could determine their level of success.

It's camp. We know they can move Owenhu out to RT if needed at any point. But they don't want to, so they have to see if anybody can step up at RT so they don't have to move him.
I heard ALL the excuses under the sun, was called a troll, told to follow a different team, etc for pointing out the OL's weakness last offseason. Not going to use camp as an excuse... they don't have a serviceable LT or RT anywhere on the roster right now, and won't when the real games start either. Brissett will be running around like a chicken with his head cut off.

Well, you'll probably hear that all again this season. Hopefully not next.

Only good news is that there is lots of dough (relative to other teams), and being 3rd on the waiver wire could land some real help on the line.

I think Pats will have a tough time getting Milton through waivers to stash him on the PS. Zappe will have a much easier time getting there as we saw a year ago.
I don’t think Zappe’s going to let himself rot on the practice squad year after year. He wants to play. With a few injuries this season, I think there’s a decent chance he gets signed to another team, even if they protect him. He’s a functional backup with starting experience in the NFL. I think people on this board are underestimating the value of that to other teams.

He also might head to the CFL or another league. I think he wants to play in the NFL, but not this way.

Maybe. It didn't happen last year. But Nathan Peterman still has a job so who knows.

I don't know about you but yes this ^ sucks for me. 4-13 teams are bad everywhere. Period.

That's also true for coaching, it's been terrible and hopefully that's been corrected.
Thats just not true. If this team was "bad everywhere" they'd have junked the defensive players entirely.

How many of that 366 was on the OFFENSE with turnovers or poor play in general? The Pats offense was giving away 11 points per game through the first 5 games.

Between Jones and Zappe they had 21 Ints and 5 Fumbles. The rest of the offense had another 14 fumbles. Thats not a recipe for winning or giving the Defense a chance.

Now, you want to pretend that the defense sucked last year, go ahead. But you're being disingenuous especially considering Gonzalez was lost for most of the year and Judon was out at well. In fact, at one point the Pats top 4 CBs were injured. But why bother with facts when you can pretend otherwise, right?

Are you two always like this, I mean I'm a rookie and not up to speed yet. But my god you sure do go at it.

Yup. And PatsFan2 and Real fan 02 also join in sometimes. I simply scroll past all of the posts while never reading them. You can put them on ignore as well. Sometimes it goes on for multiple pages.

Mayo himself even mentioned that fact; I'll be therefore a little surprised, and very disappointed, if they don't take advantage of that status while it lasts (which I believe is the first 4 weeks of the season)...

... the offense will take some time to catch up to the offense... if it ever does.
I don’t think they will…

They’ll be going round and round chasing their tails forever, just like some posters on here

Well, I'm kinda bummed but I guess the real facts will come out in the Patriots preseason games. Can't watch the pads practice at camp at all if your not there. Hopefully we will have good insiders to evaluate our hopes for the season.

We'll see if the offensive line can block, if so they should be fine.

I went yesterday, beautiful day to watch practice.

I think we will also see the Mayo coaching style, field general, personnel oversight, strategy and battleplan which I am highly concerned....
Al Groh
Bill Obrien
Eric Mangini
Nick Saban
Josh McDaniels 2x
Romeo Crennel
Jim Schwatrz
Mike Vrabel
Matt Patricia
= No Super bowls, might be no playoff wins also from the Belichick tree...
