He's a mediocre blocker and a mediocre receiver.
So am I to understand that we traded a TE to fix the holes on defense and then, traded a defensive lineman to fix the hole at TE?
some highlights of his 2013 season, so you can see what he is capable of:
Others think VERY lowly of Hicks, interested to hear more from knowledgeable people instead of accepting fan opinions, lots of fans tend to have irrational hatred towards players without knowing specific assignments.
Agree on the mediocre receiver part but definately not on the blocker part.
There was a reason Belichick gave him a 2 year deal and intelligence, his run blocking as well as being able to play special teams was why.
He played in 22% of the Patriots snaps so he is definately a contributor. Hard to show anything more when your competing for snaps with probably the best blocking TE in the business.
Sorry for the edit
This trade kicks *** from the Patriots perspective. They get a 3 year starter with Pro Bowl talent that probably only needed a change of scenery and all they had to give up was a journeyman 4th string blocking TE that just lost his job.
Just waiting for that interview where Hicks says he's thankful to finally be part of a functioning organization. Let's face it, things here are probably pretty bad behind the scenes.
I'll give you average blocker.
Hicks is not an edge player he is 325lbs and that's after losing 30lbs in the offseason. He is listed as a DE because the Saints run a 3-4. It has no impact on Jones or Flowers.Wonder if Flowers is going to IR?
Also what does this sat about Chandler Jones future when his contract is up at the end of the season.
