Patriots Trade For Rams WR Greg Salas

honestly he should be good, people give welker a lot of credit and he deserves it....but do you see where the balls thrown to him are? 80 percent are right on the money its crazy. This kid just got handed a chance of a life time brady>bradford anyday

Thanks.

Doesn't really seem to have the quickness or top end speed. He looks fearless going through the middle though.

As someone else posted, he reminds me of Hernandez. But not quick, fast, or have the running ability after the catch. WHich begs the question, why did we trade for him? We already have Welker, Hernandez, and Gronk operating in the middle of the field. Was it necessary to trade for this guy? Don't we need another outside receiver to spell Brandon or be his backup? If Salas is mainly going to play outside, we would have been better off with Branch or Gaffney. At least those guys showed a bit more quickness.

I don't think Salas can play outside. He is too limited of an athlete to get separation out there. This has to be an attempt at a Welker succession plan (admitting Edelman is not the guy?). Otherwise, it doesn't make sense.

I think we are over analyzing this. Salas isn't here to be the savior or the future Welker. Look at what we gave up for the guy. By the time the trade is complete, he could be out of the league. We need to think of Salas as another late round receiver trying to make a name for himself. Does he have talent, definitely, also good size, but he also has weaknesses that may turn him into JAG. He played in an offense in college that threw the ball a ridiculous amounts of times, typically against inferior competition, and he was allowed to freelance and not run precise routes. I'm just gonna sit back and watch the guy and not expect much. If he has 30+ catches this year I'll be happy. If he progresses every year, great.

Do you think?

He will be lucky to be a gameday active barring injury and he won't ever whiff 30 catches unless he gets past that 1 in every 9 fumbles history. He's also going to have to show some serious ST utility at a time when he's trying to assimilate into Bradyville absent any off season or camp or pre season intros. He could indeed be gone before the trade is complete. He could be gone before the first month of the season is complete.

Agreed, but makes me wonder why they created a roster spot for him when they already had Branch and/or Gaffney who could easily have contributed 30+ catches this year.

I assume you mean drafting? They get good to great recieves via other methods, does'nt matter how they get here as long as they get here.

That is still no EXCUSE they are Terrible at Drafting them.:snob: One good thing going for this Greg Salas is that BB and and those turd WR evaluators didn't draft him.

Apparently one of them did and he was on the radar here. Josh was the head turd and arbitor of who we drafted on offense from 2005-2009. He drafted Salas in St. Louis in the same role. And pushed for the trade for him back in the same role again here.

I meant the guys who were here after McDaniels left. I hope McDaniels now gets the nod to choose our WR's. Because BB and those other guys not named McDaniels don't have a clue. One can trully hope injuries don't cause our WR situation to end up like our CB position last year. I don't care how Great Gronk and Hernandez might be...if they don't have a couple of capable WR to keep the D honest they would become just about useless.

After watching that YouTube video, I think this guy is going to be in the running for filling welker's shoes next year. I am not saying it will be at the same level, simply leverage to not pay Wes. Still would like to see an outside wr aside from Lloyd on the team though...

Too bad for you that McDaniels was the one who pushed for Chad Jackson. Against the advice of the scouts and with Brian Daboll saying he wouldn't coach Jackson.

BB and Company also drafted Givens and Branch. But, yes, they are so terrible..

Pretty sure that the Pats track record with drafting WRs is on par with the rest of the league.. Unless you can show otherwise.

I wholeheartedly disagree. If anything, Salas will be utilized as leverage against Edelman not Welker, since Edelman's offensive production in the passing game has been less than stellar in the last few years. Edelman will be an unrestricted free agent next year.

You know that thats many moons ago right?

McDaniels, like everyone who drafts, has been uneven in his choices.

With the Patriots i know it's not for a lack of trying but i really hate it when some act like we don't have problem in this area. If Welker doesn't resign next year....who do we have again??? Not all but most Teams already have some young buck on the outiside or one grooming in the wings. After Bradon LIoyd who do we have on the outsides again??? We might be running the ball alot more in 2012 seriously.

The New England Patriots only have three wide receivers currently under contract for the 2013 NFL Season: Lloyd, Salas, Slater.

Matthew Slater has only one career reception.

BB is still rebuilding this Team. The Defense has nobody who is old; and now the Offense has nobody who is old either, save for Brady.

Everywhere there is developing, talented, youth, and yes including at QB.

That one 40 or 50 yard rececption i thought would be his coming out party last year. Never caught another pass after that and looked like he had stone hands to boot.

Branch was a 700 yard guy on the outside, and Salas is more athletic than Branch right now. He's also got 4 inches on Branch, which will help out on the outside.
