Patriots Trade For Rams WR Greg Salas

Your reading comprehension needs improving.

Perhaps your writing skills do, because i saw the same thing. You listed numerous players brought in at the WR position then complained that the WR position was ignored.

Again, not sure what the siginificance of discussing that backups are needed if starters are injured is that it would be in this thread.
The New England Patriots already have a backup tight end to Gronkowski and Hernandez, Daniel Fells.

The New England Patriots currently do not have a backup split end to Brandon Lloyd. Once, Jabar Gaffney returns to the New England Patriots that issue is rectified.

So what is your point?
I seriously don't understand what you are griping about.
It would appear today that Salas is that backup, and Gaffney will be when he is ready. Who do you want it to be?
What does TE have to do with it?

With the 53 man roster posted yesterday, the wide receiver depth was ignored. However, if Jabar Gaffney does return to the New England Patriots, the backup wide receiver at the split end position is resolved. Furthermore, the addition of wide receiver Greg Sales today hopefully will compliment the wide receiver corps.

Do you feel better Ice. Was that cathartic. You just lambasted the team who has put together one of the best passing attacks in the league year in and year out for close to a decade. So I find it amazing that the Pats have been able to accomplish all that with such a lack of receiving talent.

.

I guess you missed this part of my post:

It would be foolish to say the overall production of the Patriots offense has failed expectations in any way, and it hasn't. But I can still make a point that it could be better, and as the whole Pats organization would say, there's always room for improvement.

Not sure you've paid attention, but the problems in the Ravens massacre, Jets meltdown, and Giants loss all had to do with lack of receiving depth and WRs that could keep safeties back. You can throw in the Ravens playoff game last year, although we won, and that's 4 of the last five playoff games with our offense stymied.

I understand it is hard to fit into this complex system, but the coaches and scouting staff do exist for a reason.

With the return of Daniel Fells from the PUP list, Shiancoe is now expendable especially since he missed the vast majority of training camp.

So your definition of ignore is to create excessive competition in camp, then cut the players who will not help you, trade for a replacement and have another player from that competition waiting until he recovers from an injury to get activated?
Apparently you felt we needed to play with the 53 we had yesterday?

Why are you so freaked out about Shaincoe? He has nothing to do with the moves at WR.

Ahh, yeah, my bad then. I definitely missed the point.

Although I do disagree with any assessment that says that the Patriots were in fine at WR last year. They had the best slot receiver in the NFL, a once-good flanker who was running on fumes, and that was about it. They tried to address the need in the offseason, seem to have had success in at least getting a capable starter who can play outside the numbers (Lloyd), and hopefully another guy on the shadow roster who will come back when healthy (Gaffney). Looks like Belichick's still not happy with the depth, though--and he shouldn't be--so moves are still being made.

Nobody said they were fine last year. They signed a bunch of guys this year to make the team better just like they signed Ocho last year to make the team better. Football is a fickle *****.

Chad decided to **** the bed (or did the Pats decide to stifle that talent out of him? I forget which. If he was even average last year they would have been very good at the position.

Moves are being made at every position. Bill is never satisfied. He is never happy with the team. And I don't ever want him to be!

I am not responsible for cutting Deion Branch and Jabar Gaffney.

I guess by your definition Deion Branch does not help this team yet Visanthe Shiancoe who has not practiced since the first week in training camp or participated in one preseason game does?

Why has he not been expended I wonder?

Andy's definition is that you are looking at a static picture of a roster that is in a constant state of flux and fixating on one player who could be a few days from returning, headed to IR, still going to get cut, etc.

In other words you have no idea what will happen with Shiancoe or even what the roster will be an hour from now so you need to chill.

Is this the definition of clueless?

Branch clearly is not in the plans, or he was released because the team knows he won't sign anywhere else (like Warren) and they can use his roster spot for flexibility.
Clearly the team either feels that a 4th TE is very important, and/or they want time to assess Shaincoe to determine whether he will be ready to contribute, needs to go on IR, or could be the new IR designated guy after 9/4.
I'm not sure why you are so obtuse in thinking that the 8/31 roster is in any way final.

I think you had a knee jerk reaction and now are defending your reaction by ignoring everyones responses and insight and pretending we will be playing games with the 8.31 roster on the field, which is so far from the truth that your argument is beginning to look naive.

Shiancoe will be IR'd on Tuesday under the new short term rule.

Going by what the pats do every season, would be surprised if he lasts the season.

The New England Patriots need a split end backup to Brandon Lloyd week 1 against Tennessee. Neither Deion Branch or Jabar Gaffney are currently on the roster. The New England Patriots have a backup tight end in Daniel Fells week 1 against Tennessee. With Shiancoe currently on the roster, his presence does not maximize the proven wide receiver depth needed for week 1 against Tennessee.

Is this the definition of clueless?

I don't think he's being clueless, he's being obstinate. Why he has chosen a defenseless, injured TE to fixate this obstinacy on is beyond me.

In other news I am agreeing with Andy in almost every thread going on right now.

I thought the blue moon was last night.

The Pats didn't have a split end backup all last season and ended up doing alright.

I wonder how many other fans would live to be discussing split end backups on their boards rather than wondering if their RT is going to get their QB killed.

Followed up by the thread discussing whether you could call the death of said QB manslaughter or classify it as a mercy killing.
