Patriots Sign WR Corey Coleman

So, uh, where are all the people saying WR wasn’t a need in the offseason. Belichick apparently disagrees and now he’s throwing stuff at the wall to see if anything sticks.

Don’t see him making much of an impact this season as a WR. This may be a move for 2019 and/or emergency or STs situation. He’ll spend this season red shirting and learning the playbook. The Pats are fine at WR with Edelman, Hogan, Patterson and Dorsett.

When people say he didn't workout in Bufallo and Cleveland, I take that as a good thing. These teams do nothing right. Also motivation should be a huge problem playing for these teams.

If he wants to make millions and keep being a football player he will have to put the work in, if he doesn't work out with Josh McDonald and Tom Brady, chances are he will be done in this league although teams may view that differently given the high standard expected in NE.

Bills cut him because of his poor attitude and inability to run precise routes. Not sure why Bill feels like things will be better in NE.

Maybe BB (and Josh) doesn't give a **** for that coaching staff and is glad he didn't learn anything there, so he doesn't need to lose time making him unlearn bad habits and will reset the kid.

There's a negative correlation between Wonderlic and NFL production, for what it's worth.

Coleman's got a lot of talent. I thought he looked good as a rookie. Unfortunate bouts with injuries and a questionable attitude though. We'll see. Dorsett seems to be putting it together in Foxboro and Coleman was a superior prospect. Notably, he was a very good punt returner in college.
He returned 3 punts in his college career for 9 yards.

You're right. I looked up his draft profile and it said he was a good punt returner and offered punt return upside in the pros so I figured he was a regular punt returner. Guess they didn't do their homework.

Why bother dumpster diving? Just give Bryant a tryout.

There’s literally no universe where Coleman or Fowler are better receivers than Dez.

Gordon in 4+ years.
11 games. 93 targets 43 receptions.
Last year and this after 2 season of no football
6 games 45 targets 19 catches.
Hes done more in the NFL than Coleman and Fowler.

Gordon caught 1 pass Sunday. 69 snaps 40 passes only 3 targets and 1 catch.
Coleman was a top 15 draft pick.
Thats more than Fowler and Coleman.

Wish the team was better at drafting WR and we wouldn't be having to go thrift shopping.

Better coaching. Better QB. Better environment.

Seriously, how could anyone keep a good attitude and motivation on Cleveland and then the bills? Based on week one results Bills may have replaced Browns as NFL doormat. That can't have been a good locker room to lay an egg that badly.

It’s worth noting that after being cut, Coleman had the option to retire from the NFL and still get his guaranteed $3.5 million over the next two seasons. It’s at least a little encouraging that he’s trying to salvage his career even though it won’t pay off financially until 2020.

Coleman is still a pretty good talent at this point though. We can make him a nine route specialist here. Coleman is the exact opposite of Patterson we can trust him two yards from the LOS.:D

Fowler's largely a special teams signing and Coleman's an upside acquisition like Dorsett last year. Very different than Bryant, who would be expected to come in and start. The Patriots clearly feel they have their top-3 wide receivers in Hogan, Dorsett, and Edelman (when he returns) with a few targets for Patterson per game and the ability to fill in behind them with running backs, tight ends, and a few snaps for the Colemans and Fowlers of the world. Coleman's also a downfield burner and can contribute with easy fly routes while he's still learning the offense.

I know why he had a problem with dropping balls, coach ability etc. he was in buffalo and cleaveland. That’s an automatic double hex.

He may have even been blowing it on purpose
