Plus he switched positions without practice. I have no inkling what Scar sees and projects with these guys. In time I think he will turn some combination of these guys into a serviceable unit. But these are new guys with little practice, unfamiliar with playbook, and unfamiliar with teammates. So no blame if things aren’t quite clicking yet. Gotta give it time and hope Tom survives. In Bill we trust.

all these guys we signed are scrubs and won't suddenly be good. We need to realize that. TB needs to get the ball out quick. Running game will probably suffer off tackle.

Yes he could have been, easily.

Glad that Bill isn't relying on the same retreads at OT whose only qualifications for even being in the same building is that they are former players of buddies. (Now Bill, about Jimmy Ferentz....)

ALL of Cunningham, Elmanure & Benenoch have enough things in their favor worthy of development here: size, strength (though Benenoch never lifted?), explosion, length (though Cunningham's arms...!), youth & early pro experience.
Their agility results, unfortunately, are nothing about which to write home (in the case of Cunningham, literally nothing: he has no results), and Benenoch's in particular are flat-out Putrid.
It will therefore be up to Dante to somehow figure out how to compensate for their stiffness and instead highlight their abilities, especially as what should be assets in the power-running game.

I really hope they don't mess with Cannon and leave him at RT. Use a combination of those retreads at LT with heavy TE and RB help.

It’s essentially impossible for a guy on a team that won 43-0 to have been the worst player on any team.

It is useful, however, as our routine reminder that PFF rankings are pretty dumb and shouldn't be used as any kind of gospel.

Newhouse was bad on Sunday, but pretty understandably so given the circumstances, and there's no way you'll ever convince me he was worse than everyone on the Dolphins, Jets and Bengals. At a bare minimum he was on the field blocking people for some touchdowns.

Dante is working with four players who have started in this league. He will be testing them all in the next few weeks. We need a backup center, a backup guard, and three OT's. One would replace Ferentz. Given all the newbies, and given Cannon's injury, I would keep 9 OL's on the 53.

To be clear, every time we sign an OL, we are likely to be cutting one. We have the right NUMBER at the present time. I think that we have all the roles covered, except perhaps for backup center.

    "CURRENT" STARTERS (4)
    TBD
    Thuney
    Karras
    Mason
    Cannon

    INCUMBENTS (5)
    Newhouse
    Eluemunor
    Cunningham
    Bennenoch
    Ferentz

Speaking of which, I believe they're still carrying two OTs on the practice squad who went through training camp with the team, Skipper & St. Louis. It's a pretty narrow line to walk, showing enough promise to stay on the PS yet so little that a troupe of street free agents with 3 days to practice get the call above them.

OT talent is hella scarce in this league.

    I agree.

We've come a long way from Skipper being a favorite to make the 53. As you say, now BB would rather activate a street free agent with no knowledge of the system (and have him play).

Skipper and St Louis have shown enough potential to be 2020 prospects, or they are good scout team dummies.

Agree. I think Eluemunor is the best of the bunch...but he's a better G then T.

He was pretty bad statistically. There were a couple of penalties and guys got around him.

But it was a gutty performance considering the heat and situation.

If he were All-Pro he could have even have a game like that in that situation.

And he didn't kill us (meaning Brady).

Elmanure is absolutely a Guard and not a Tackle, not even a RT-only...the question now becomes:
is he doomed to be a RG-only due to his being too stiff to provide any LG versatility?

I'm sold on Froholdt...I think he can replace Thuney at LG next year and not embarrass himself to much. But if he's not up to it...I think Elmanure has a lot of potential there too.

If Eluemunor is as good as that, he was great find. We needed a backup OG. Securing one that is a potential starter in 2020 is gravy.

You gave an interesting nickname to Jermaine.

Tyree St. Louis was cut from the practice squad on Labor Day. Najee Toran and Skipper are the OLineman on the PS.

Yeah I think Jermaine and Froholdt have starter potential at G in 2020. I love Thuney but he's going to command top G dollar as been mentioned many times. Of course Cannon is not getting any younger...I hope Cajuste can play a little later this season. We need to know how well he can play T before the next draft.

I think we go T next draft early to go along with Cajuste, Wynn and Cannon. Need to build depth.

We also are likely to sign a couple of vets. Given the injuries to Wynn and Cannon, we need to have solid options. Cajuste is the first step in backfilling for Cannon. Hopefully, he will be competing with a early round rookie for swing OT reps.

Of course, one of the newly acquired OT's might surprise us and be the competition for Cajuste.

Besides T. Brown....how often does a vet become a solid starter for many years on the Oline?
