DRAFT Patriots select DB Marcus Jones at 85

Really good pick I feel, We are facing some of the quicker WRs in our division and this guy can straight fly and match them. He’s also a threat every time he touches the ball to score as well. Think he will be our punt and kick return guy from day one. Wouldn’t surprise me if he also sees snaps on the offensive side of the ball either. Really like this pick.

The Pats haven’t had a GOOD return specialist in years. Worst case scenario we have our new PR and KO returner. And maybe slip him in at WR from time to time. The size and lack of ELITE skill scare me a bit, it said he ran a 4.50 at his pro day. Not slow, but not blazing fast. Though when you watch his film, he looks faster. Also seems to not be afraid of hitting. But had surgeries on BOTH shoulders, so that worries me as well. Just a baller, but the Pats still don’t have a true #1 cover corner.
What are you talking about? Gunner was an All-Pro as a returner.

He was never a homerun threat. Just doesn't have that 5th gear speed that you need, to be successful in this league.

I don't blame him. Edelman was a generational returner that raised the benchmark so high he ruined it for everyone who came after him.
I guess if you define “in years” to be 2. Lol

Edelman just retired ’recent’ (in my terms and gunner was doing great at punts the first year. I don’t recall when we ever had much of a threat at KO returns; but nyjfl will soon eliminate those anyway. Maybe Jones can take a few back before they legislate KO out of existence.

Edelman ceased being a returner when he became a crucial part of the offense. That was a good number of years ago, I'd think, but don't quote me on that. I am too lazy to look it up.

Good pick. Would like to see the team address the LB issue. Old and slow was painful last year to watch.

If they turn him into a Pats Slot WR and PR/KR then I'll be happy. Then again, now that Tyreek is in MIA, this pick might have been solely for that purpose. Put Jones on Hill vs. MIA, and McKenzie vs. BUF.

He still fielded punts but evolved into more of a "hands" role so you are not wrong.

When’s the last time we returned a KICK OFF for a TD, had an elite kick off returner ? Gunner was a good punt returner for one year. This guy can do both. Had 2 punt returns for TDs and 2 kickoff returns for TD’s last year.
