Re: Patriots release Chris Baker

Pats have a lot of needs and there will be a lot of turnover. Don't listen to the people who say they'll be quiet this offseason.

Looks like a lot of good players will get cut all over the league. I see the Pats picking up a bunch of low risk high reward veterans.

In my opinion they will probably give a chance for the practice squad te to make the team (agnone?), other than him it should be a completely new tight end corps. I feel like the type of tight ends that are brought in will say something about what the team plans to do next year (more run plays/utilizing the te in the passing game).

Re: Patriots release Chris Baker

Stone hands Graham is a clutch catcher?

he has made some great catches........but I guess since the pats FO does everything right, that letting him go was a no brainer.....especially since they replaced him with david thomas

Re: Patriots release Chris Baker

Very interesting. I was a fan of baker's in NY, but he looked twice as slow here. Decent blocker mind.

I'm happy whatever we do, because the TE situation has quite frankly been laughable, and it simply can't get any worse.

If we get a receiving TE though, then we must use him more in the passing game. Must.

I'll have a slice of Jimmy Graham and Tony Moeaki please.

Yes I think they'll be active

Letting Danny Graham go was a huge Fu(kup by BB IMO - Blockers and clutch catchers like him (when you needed him to be there) don't come often.

I liked Graham too but not for 5 years 30 million

So after trading up to the 21st pick here's the production we missed by foregoing that hefty contract.

16,21,24,32,28,. Wow. even if every one was clutch that's pretty meager. Sorry, a great blocker, but I don't really want to wince every time a ball hits my 6 million tight end on the hands.

Re: Patriots release Chris Baker

So......no tight ends on the roster huh? Definitely an unexpected and bizarre move. At worst, he was an adequate #2 guy.

There are 2 TEs on the Roster. Both were guys who the Pats had on the Practice Squad last year. Robbie Agnone and Rob Myers..

technically you are correct......but like someone else said: 'there are no TE's on the roster'

Re: Patriots release Chris Baker

If we wanted Olsen/other FA, this kills our leverage.

The Pats didn't "LET" Daniel Graham go. Graham turned down their offer because he wanted to go to Denver and play for the team his DAD played for. It would be nice if people didn't make sh!t up.

It's amazing how people like yourself continue to harp on the drops he had in his ROOKIE year.

After his rookie year, his drops went down and down and down. The last 2 seasons with the Pats he only had 1 or 2 draps. TOTAL.

That and $12m in guarantees helped him make a decision...

like I have said many times before.......when graham left, so did any semblance of toughness the pats offense had. take your pick, 2006 and 2007.....you could say if graham was here, there would be 2 more trophies in the closet

so people who scoff at the 5 years 30M should think about that once in a while.......with graham around, the pats ran at will on tampa 2 teams, they would have taken care of the colts in '06, and he would have been the extra blocker the pats needed against the giants......especially since they managed to find a way to give jarvis green the money they gave him

There are no "PROVEN" TEs on the roster.

Agnone is a 6'5 3/8 and around 260. He was a good blocker and good receiver in college. The Pats liked him enough to keep re-sign him.

Myers is more of an H-back/FB than a TE. He is 6'3 and 240lbs or so. He's fast (4.55-40). He showed the Pats enough for them to bring him back.

Do the Pats need TEs? Yes. Most definitely.

DG was with the team in 2006.

Tanked - as you know, I have always been an ardent supporter of Graham. I've had more than my fair share of arguments saying that Graham wasn't a bust as a 1st round pick and that people over-exaggerate the drops he had.

Did I want the Pats to keep him? Yes. But they couldn't with the Salary Cap. there just wasn't a way.

Re: Patriots release Chris Baker

doh.......so much for that memory

Point taken on 07. Hypothetically, his presence would have been significant vs the Giants in 07. Kyle Brady was too slow to handle Osi, Tuck or Strahan...

and opposing defense need to be much more ready to be run on with a TE like that...ain't so easy to pin your ears back and leave DG alone on an LB....he eats 'em

I believe they could have kept him, but that in going with the mcdaniel scheme, he was not worth it......in fact, the pats may have the opportunity to get him back because it sounds like graham could be dumped by the broncos

Re: Patriots release Chris Baker

Watson is going to denver . Mcd will trade tony who cannot block to save his life and pair watson and graham again.
