Re: Patriots release Chris Baker

Maybe I've been living in a cave, but isn't there a guy named Watson that we need to sign. Unless the Pats have officially said goodbye to him, I would think that this move removes any speculation over whether Watson will be here this season.

Baker didn't do much last year IMO (how many passes did Brady throw to him, like 5 or something?) and is making a fair amount of money, so this isn't surprising at all.

Watson is unsigned, so they have no tight ends under contract. There's also very little chance Watson comes back, as everything that has been reported in the last month has indicated that both he and the team wants to go in a different direction.

Re: Patriots release Chris Baker

Strange move.... please don't tell me another day 1 TE

Re: Patriots release Chris Baker

perhaps the Pats no longer believe in TEs and would rater use eligible OL's..I really want Watson back.
This also says something about the pats ability to evaluate talent.

Probably day 2, I'd guess Jimmy Graham unless they are confident in Gronkowski's back being healthy.

If you mean First Round by "Day 1," then no, I don't think that will happen. But "Day 2," i.e. Rds 2-3, then yes I think you'll see a TE. Pats need one.

Re: Patriots release Chris Baker

Olsen is a good receiving TE, but the knock on him is his blocking. I really don't want to trade one our 2nd round picks for a TE, but Olsen would probably be very successful with Brady.

I hope this move was made to free up space for FA or a trade for someone like Boldin.

They need one, but I have DL/LB/WR/OG as more important needs right now and that's where I'd rather we prioritize in the draft... alot can change once FA starts though

Re: Patriots release Chris Baker

Sign Alge Crumpler for blocking and trade fro Greg Olsen for a receiver.

Re: Patriots release Chris Baker

Sign Vrabel! I rather have him and LeVoir man the spot anyways.

Re: Patriots release Chris Baker

I said it in here and got flamed for it....

BAKER SUCKED!!!!

Watson is next

Look for a whole new TE lineup in the fall

Re: Patriots release Chris Baker

When did it become so hard to retain a blocking tight end?

Re: Patriots release Chris Baker

i see one of two thing going on here

A they are going to re-sign watson,

B the pats are seting the tone for a very dry free agency period.

baker, is not the best player in the world. but why would u cut the only TE on your team cause he will be makeing 2 million in a uncaped year ?

do the pats know something will there be a cap this year. or im i just looking to much in to this lol and the pats just cut a player who sucks.

Re: Patriots release Chris Baker

Welcome G Reg Olsen for Ignarmious Thomas

Pats have a lot of needs and there will be a lot of turnover. Don't listen to the people who say they'll be quiet this offseason.

Letting Danny Graham go was a huge Fu(kup by BB IMO - Blockers and clutch catchers like him (when you needed him to be there) don't come often.

Re: Patriots release Chris Baker

I forgot about Baker after the Falcons game until Jacksonville game!

But still quite shocked.

Stone hands Graham is a clutch catcher?

I liked him,I can remember more than a few times when he made some great
3rd down catches....better than Watson is or was.

I would not say he was always involved in the passing game but I thought he was consistent when called upon.

Wow!

Patriots Release TE Chris Baker

He was set to have a $2.37M "cap" hit in 2010. According to Miguel, "there's a $1.2 million option bonus in 2011."

It's possible this is to just restructure his deal.

Gotta give Reiss credit on this one. He here is a post he made on February 23, albeit saying that 2010 would be Baker's final year:

Patriots Blog - ESPN Boston

This move leaves Robbie Agnone and Rob Myers, who were both on the practice squad in 2009, as the lone TEs under contract for 2010.

BB just didn't see the production that warranted the salary.
