Just dealing with reality. He has 10 sacks in 5 years.
And those don’t come with good pressure stats either.
Let’s just say he never has been an impactful pass rusher so I don’t except him to become one suddenly in year 6.
Stranger things have happened but the odds are against it
I thought Chaisson looked good on the tape, and despite the #'s he really did have his best pass rushing year in 2024 and thus is improving and now with some good coaches. He's an upgrade over Jennings. He's an upgrade over the end of year White. Keion White just went downhill the last 6-7 games. If you get beginning of the year White different story.

He's an ascending player, coming off his best year, and better than what they had. It's an improvement, just a question how much.

I thought Swinson looked really good, wish he had better bend around the corner but hands, speed, power, has some of all of that.

Trey Hendrickson would be great but that's highly unlikely.

The coaching staff likes Ponder.

The numbers say (I posted them) that last year his amount of pressure didn’t improve but he turned a couple of qb hits from his typical season into sacks and otherwise was the same guy.

What tape are you referring to?

Chiasson is faster than Jennings, not certain he is a better football player. Swinson appears to be an inexperienced version of Chaisson

Chaisson had 4 sacks in his last 6 games, that is the stretch that nfl analysts keyed on and thought maybe he finally figured something out. Time will tell, I expect good things.

Yes, we've had a few guys make a reputation off of one game against a backup tackle. I need to see more. I did like a sack or pressure where he came off an outside move and stayed inside for a sack or hurrying the passer into an interception.

I'm just talking pass rush, Jennings is a very good on run defense

The exhibition games tape.

Chaisson Pass Rush PFF ratings
2020: 58.5
2021: 55.5
2022: 51.7
2023: 58.2
2024: 74.7

I also looked at some of the games last year, though did not look at years before and looked at what LV fans thought of Chaisson last year. I know, subjective, but every Viking fan hated Bradbury and we see why, Raiders fans wanted them to resign Chaisson. They thought he was good.
He really did produce at a good level last year.

I'm far from saying he makes them OK at edge rusher but I think he is better than his numbers and an upgrade over most of the edge rushers used in 2024. Of course they were last in the league in sacks in 2024, not hard to upgrade.

Chaisson: 6 sacks in 2024 would have led the Patriots team in sacks.

All that said:

Patriots 2024 Team Sack Total: 28 and White led with 16 QB Hits
Trey Hendrickson Sack Total: 17.5 and 36 QB Hits

We disagree. His pressure numbers weren’t good, he got a few sacks but a pass rushing specialist getting 5 sacks (you said 6, that’s not correct, I asssume you are looking at PFF who counts a half sack as a whole) in 309 pass rush opportunities with only 19 pressures and 4 Qb hits is not good production.

If there was a belief he finally figured it out and is now the 4 sacks in 6 game guy, not the 5 sack in 66 game guy he was, then he would have commanded more than a 1 year 4 mill contract.

Again, I hope I am wrong but he doesnt look like the answer.

I’m not sure how much film review of 7 snaps in a preseason game tells us but I’ll go back and watch them.

He has a recent body of work that hopefully indicates a light bulb moment. He has a longer history of injury and disappointment. The contract he signed is indicative of the risk, not the reward.

Thanks. Basically no talent was claimed off waivers on cut down day. The cut down day OL players were bottom of the barrel guys. Every year claiming guys on cut down day is discussed, and every year no significant player is claimed.
Just a reminder. Plenty of people out there laughed when the Patriots added the likes of Tom Ashworth, Brandon Gorin, Dam Connolly, and Billy Yates. There were more than a few on this board who lambasted the Pats for those signings.

With the exception of Yates, they all played an integral part in SB wins.

The contract is indicative of how he is viewed as a player.
If it was perceived he had a “light bulb moment”, not sure how that makes you more talented though, then teams would have been fighting over him.
His market says the scouting believes his other 66 games are a better gauge of who he is than 6 games is.

Again I hope I’m wrong but I’m not confident

hell I wanted to keep Conor McDermott... would love another Tom Ashworth and Dan Connolly

Yes, the contract is based on the larger sample size of disappointing play, I said as much. He had the physical traits and college production to be a first round pick. He had a nice 6 game stretch to finish last season and was healthy. I expect that level of play, you do not.
