Well, 2024 isn't Belichick obviously.

So Breer's idea that it will take more seasons to bypass Belichick's bad drafting skips over the fact that the worst draft of the last 6 years wasn't even Belichick's.

Belichick's drafts were bad prior to those 6 years, but we really don't need to talk about 2016 anymore since that was so long ago. The more recent drafts aren't as bad as people make them out to be.

Obviously I listed all our players above from those drafts.

Nah it really sucked. Bill had half decent draft only in 2023. Right from 2019 till 2023 . Those 5 years sucked. And we are paying price for it and Mayo added ten death knell.

It's a miracle that this draft looks promising.

Bill after Brady was rank useless as a coach and as a GM. I am sorry , that's not a opinion but a fact. The decisions on coaching, drafting etc. everything was so rank bad. No wonder kraft got mighty pissed .

Love hearing this. This is a player that I really wanted NE to get in the draft a few years ago. Now that they have him, it’s great to hear that he’s looking like he might live up to his potential in this defense. I’ll definitely be rooting for him.

Rumor is Bengals want a 1 and a young defensive player.
I doubt they get a 1, those trades don’t happen often.
Give them a 2 and they’re choice of Chaisson, Pharms or Ellis.

And those don’t come with good pressure stats either.
Let’s just say he never has been an impactful pass rusher so I don’t except him to become one suddenly in year 6.

983 pass rushes

21 qb hits
60 pressures

Here are Hendricksons
2746 pass rushes
85 sacks
79 qb hits
241 pressures

So dividing Hendrickson numbers by 3 is per 915 pass rushes, compared to Chaissons 983
Sacks are 28 to 10
Hits are 26 to 21
Pressures are 80 to 60


Even Anfernee Jennings is
831 6 11 53
Which per 983 rushes would be 7 13 62 compared to Chaisson 10 21 60


I’m not seeing the impact from Chaisson but I hope he pulls off a miracle.


Also Chaisson last year was 309 5 4 19
So while he got 2 more sacks than his first 4 years would have projected he is qb hits and pressures were down by 3 hits and the pressures were same old same old.
So statistically it appears the difference last year compared to his 5 sacks 4 year career to date was that 2-3 times the hit came before the qb threw rather than after.

The Patriots had the third priority in the waiver order due to their 2023 season record. This allowed them to be aggressive in adding outside talent to their roster, particularly on the offensive and defensive lines. Demontrey Jacobs (formerly with the Broncos) and Zachary Thomas (formerly with the Rams) both add offensive line depth. Curtis Jacobs (formerly with the Chiefs) fills a linebacker need. Eric Johnson (formerly with the Colts) provides depth on the interior defensive line.

Thanks. Basically no talent was claimed off waivers on cut down day. The cut down day OL players were bottom of the barrel guys. Every year claiming guys on cut down day is discussed, and every year no significant player is claimed.

Austin? Why not James? Then we have 3-injury prone CBs and no backups!

James is looking good, definitely a keeper.

Agree we should keep Austin as well.

Unless Vrabes knows that Austin or James is not making the 53 on cutdown day. If that’s the case might be better to trade him and get something back instead of taking the risk of waiving him and losing him for nothing instead of having him on PS. I’d rather see James stay and Austin go if it comes to that.

From what I've heard, James is playing above draft by a long shot(his 3rd person c rap is real weird-Clifford Franklin weird), but supposedly AA has been playing decently as well
I guess we'll see in the next week.

Rolled up on can result in a lot of things, some could be longer than the other. Additionally, under the current rules a player only needs to be on IR for 4 weeks before being eligible to return. So it’s not the half-season wait like it was initially.

Exactly. And some, like a high ankle sprain, can linger, especially if not given adequate time to heal.

Also last season Bourne had just come back from an ACL so giving him plenty of time to make sure he doesn’t take a step back physically or mentally seems like a good idea.

The wild card is Bourne injury, hard to make the club from the tub. Hopefully he goes on IR-DTR because if we have a WR injury we are going to need him.

He might have a shot at the 53 if Kyle gets his bell rung again, or any other WR gets injured between now and cutdown day. I think Josh knows him well enough to have the confidence to put him on the 53 without seeing a lot of him in preseason, as long as he’s healed. If no other WR goes down before cutdown Bourne likely gets redshirted on IR DTR.

That seems most likely but I think there’s a path for Bourne to sneak onto the 53 if there are other WR injuries between now and cutdown day.
