Rumor is Bengals want a 1 and a young defensive player.
I doubt they get a 1, those trades don’t happen often.
Give them a 2 and they’re choice of Chaisson, Pharms or Ellis.

Yeah that asking price doesn't seem realistic to me.

I'm not sure if they are just trying to put pressure on Hendrickson's team (as in if they really want to stay they've been warned).

Or maybe vice versa they know there's no middle ground and are just floating a high ask in hopes some team comes even close.

I wasn't expecting to pick Hollins and Chism. I would have guessed somehow Polk and Baker would have won this battle. But for me I think it's pretty clear Chism and Hollins played better than Polk, Baker, and Bourne. I even think there's a chance one or both could have passed Boutte too and not to Boutte's fault he had a good start to camp and has been consistent since I just think there's a decent chance the last week from Chism and Hollins was better than the best Boutte has put on tape.

Right now I see it as
Diggs, Pop, and Hollins getting the bulk to start.

Boutte, Chism, and Williams will very much still be in the mix with some time letting it all shake out. I think Boutte probably starts the year as the 4th GameDay active.

Baker, Polk, and Bourne are headed to PS, IR (possibly DTR), or another team.

The trouble is that cutting Polk is expensive.

His cap hit becomes $4.5 million (yes, I know, but you already know what I think of Eliot Wolf) and that adds another $2.3 million, plus, of course, whoever else becomes part of the top of the roster, so call it a $3.5 million cap hit. In contrast, cutting Bourne and Baker saves money (as does cutting Chism and Hollins).

If there is any way to keep Polk, there's an argument for doing that, given how tight the cap will become next year and whenever they pay Maye.

We got Micah! We got Micah!

Oops ... wrong Micah.

For what little it's worth, I agree with Patsfan1645:

- Hendrickson is a very good pass rusher starting on the backside of his career. He will make the defense better, but not transform it. I would not give up anything close to a 1st and a player to acquire him, given his age and what it would cost to pay him.

- Parsons is a transformational HOF payer in his prime. Acquiring him is still an extreme longshot, but he would transform the defense. Parsons, Gonzalez, Williams and Barmore would potentially be the nucleus of a SB caliber defense for the next 5-7 years. With a QB on a liw cost deal, the window to be a contender would be open - like GB adding Reggie White with a young Brett Favre. If the opportunity arises, I would strongly considered it, even though the cost would be high.

If you didn’t care to change my mind you wouldn’t keep responding.
Of course I provided evidence to support my belief that it would be a good idea to sign a really good edge rusher.

Do you dispute we are weak at the position? Have little depth?
Do you dispute that run D is a concern?
Do you dispute the secondary isn’t a health concern?

That’s all known as evidence of why it would make sense to add a top caliber edge rusher to make the team better.

In addition I addressed your evidence of camp reports, which I think bad can all agree aren’t very good predictors of what they team will look like, and preseason games which arent all the starters playing together in a game plan scenario and only playing a handful of snaps.

If you think those are strong evidence that the defense is going to dominate and doesn’t need a better edge pass rush, I don’t agree.
Disagree....now give me another wall of your opinions

I think there's some disappointment on White, but that it remains to be seen if he can put it together this year. I don't think it's related to Hendrickson.
I think it’s just a crossroads of if White will take the next step, or will he be just a “fine” jack of all trades piece.

Aka, is he the new Wise.

IR DTR for Polk makes sense then. Probably best to give him a little more time before giving up on a second rounder anyway.

What do you disagree with?
If you don’t want to hear my opinions then don’t respond. Simple, huh?

At present, he is hurt and can't play so there really isn't a realistic way to justify his roster spot over players like EC3.

Better off cutting him now while the team has ample space to absorb it. Same goes for Dugger.

I went and watched Ponder in the 2 exhibition games, and I didn't see much worth getting excited about, maybe they want to entice/fool the Bengals in a Hendrickson trade
Vernon Gholston them?

Hollins and/Or Chism being cut before Polk or Baker would be a fkn SHOCK, and Hollins contract is guaranteed AFAIK, so pretty much a wash.

That would be the worst decision they could make IMO.

According to Overthecap, cutting Hollins after 1 June would create $2,750,000 dead money and saves $1,300,000. Cutting Polk adds $2,312,881. Far from "a wash".

Of course, I'd prefer Hollins and Chism on playing grounds, so perhaps they'll have to swallow the hit and the apologists will explain it as another of the terrible decisions that The Fall Guy forced onto Eliot Wolf.

Trouble is, they really, really ought to be carrying over a lot of cap to next year.

Nah I think teams always say they want a 1 even when they know they won’t get it.
