Patriots new OC - Alex Van Pelt

LOL, you want BB to choose the coaching staff for his replacement?
Nah.. the way he left the cupboard dry in terms of offense, making sure no sane OC will even be remotely interested in this job. Our job is a leftover and so will be the candidates and that's thanks to Bill.

I don't want Bill anywhere near the Pats front office for the next few years.

Yeah, he must've done something, just seems weird. But on balance having a guy who has a bit more experience seems like a smart choice for someone is green as Mayo so I don't hate it
Some of the reporting said that a lot of Browns players were upset he was fired because he was the real leader of things on offense and actually ran and organized most things. Stefanski called the plays but is very flat and not necessarily the leader type.

Draw a parallel to Mayo and Steve Belichick, where Mayo was the leader of the defense but Steve called the plays. If the team fired Mayo and the players were angry, would it make sense to say “what’s the big deal? Steve calls the plays”

I certainly am not hoping for mayo to fail personally. It was time for Bill to go and while I would have kept them as the Coach, he was never going to do that so it is what it is. It doesn't mean I'm optimistic about it though.

I'm being reactionary. I don't think it's dramatic though. I don't think it's a good higher based on his resume.

Like I said though, I'll be the first person in here to say I overreacted and was wrong if it turns out that he is a efficient and good coordinator.

But today is not that day.
Why should we be more dramatically pessimistic about it? I mean who else did we expect? Pats OC job isn’t a hot commodity and this is probably better than Nick Caley who appeared to be the odds on favorite for the job.

I'm not telling anybody how to feel. That was my point.

The new regime is starting with an excellent draft position and a deep war chest for FA. Bill is gone, he has nothing to do with 2024.

This is it !! Caley was not even interested to come here . Pats just leaked some fake news to make it look as if we had options.

If we left van pelt , we literally had 0 options . Lions coordinator might be staying back for 1 more year with Ben johnson and getsy might also nit have been interested .

If I am Kraft, I am furious with the way Bill left the organization.

I don't think we will draft a QB this season. We might be able to garner more excitement with MHJ than Jayden daniels .

Most likely Brissett should head back here.

Was curious for your opinion on who you think might’ve been a better option that would’ve been interested?

I guess I thought the Lions QB coach was intriguing but it seems like a number of candidates were unimpressed. I’m not far off from you. He could be trash but the mystery of it being an outside guy makes me interested.

I'd be ok to bring in Brissett as a bridge until the rook develops.
I don’t think Daniels starting day 1 is a good idea - he needs more development and probably gets shell shocked. But with a year to sit, develop, train, watch and learn, put a little muscle on - I do think his floor would be respectable in year 2. Brissett would be a great veteran to learn from and also to be his backup in year 2 as well.

Same applies for Maye really.

I'm reactionary I couldn't begin to even tell you who it could be or should be. I almost preferred somebody unheard of to be honest.

lol, this person fits the look for using they/them pronouns and organizing student activist marches at your local community college…but hey, hopefully they are a good coach and we hire them.

If we draft any QB (especially at #3), they should at least sit for their rookie season and learn (also while a hopefully a good OL and skill position weapons are added).

Albert Breer with some interesting insight on the Cleveland situation about the 4-5 minute mark of the embedded video: Van Pelt was the glue that held the offense together and Stephanski wasn't the one who fired him.

Interesting nugget at the end, Breer reports that Van Pelt will have freedom to hire his own staff.

People obsessing about ‘he got fired’ from this n that job…. Most coaches got fired. Landry. BB. Carroll. NFL coaches get fired.

I don’t know how this coaching group will make out, but I’ll be watching.
They get fired when the team goes in another direction with its head coach. This is being fired by the head coach.

The 2023 season isn't over yet. This is Bill's season. He left a **** sandwich and walked out the door.

How about you wait for FAcy and the draft before declaring 2024 DOA first?
I'm starting to think 2025 and 26 might not look good either. This is scary but hey at least it's not Bill right.

Wasn’t he the Bills QB in that game in Foxboro in the 90s where Bledsoe led a last minute game winning TD drive and they walked off the field at the PAT to protest a call then letting Adam get an easy 2 pt convert? Lol
That rings a bell. I was trying to remember which Buffalo backup came into the game totally out of his sync with his offense because he didn't think he was going to play so he didn't study the gameplan for the week, and din't know the plays. I hope that's not Van Pelt. Cant remember the name, 25 years ago.
