I'm not crazy about the hire, but devil's advocate: in Buffalo the entire coaching staff was fired, in Tampa the entire coaching staff was fired, in Green Bay he got fired when they basically made McCarthy overhual everything to save himself and then McCarthy got fired the next year, in Cincinatti he came in during the final year of the Marvin Lewis era and got let go with the rest of that regime.

Aside from the Browns (where his offense was objectively solid for the situation they were in), he mostly just was casuality of regime changes

I read his contract expired in GB, which I guess is just a bit different.

Cleveland’s scheme is pretty good, so bringing something like that over would be great, especially if they draft Jayden Daniels.

Brissett was Cleveland’s starter in 2022 and so should have familiarity with the system.

I'd be ok to bring in Brissett as a bridge until the rook develops.

I have to assume (hope) he’s involved in coming up with the game plan, coming up with plays, breaking down film, etc. but the actual game day selection of those plays was left to Stefanski. Similar to how Mayo did that on the defensive side but Steve Belichick actuwlly called the plays. But I have to proof that’s the case in this instance.

Yeah, he must've done something, just seems weird. But on balance having a guy who has a bit more experience seems like a smart choice for someone as green as Mayo so I don't hate it

This is it !! Caley was not even interested to come here . Pats just leaked some fake news to make it look as if we had options.

If we left van pelt , we literally had 0 options . Lions coordinator might be staying back for 1 more year with Ben johnson and getsy might also nit have been interested .

If I am Kraft, I am furious with the way Bill left the organization.

I don't think we will draft a QB this season. We might be able to garner more excitement with MHJ than Jayden daniels .

I like it, glad to have this settled so they can move forward before the new league year starts. I choose to be optimistic and have confidence in Mayo, and I like the fact that Van Pelt has a wealth of experience as a QB and nearly 20 years as a coach in different organizations and roles.

Also @PatsWickedPissah we may have a fellow Jumbo to cheer for in the single most important position coach role other than QB coach!

Ross, you need to give us fans some leeway.

We are slowly getting used to the fact that we are the bottom litter of the NFL and pretty much a stinky joint at this point of time and our 6 rings mean nothing. We are on par with probably panthers and possibly cardinals as one of the worst teams in the league with no room to improve.

Most of us still are yet to swallow our pride and are hoping that OCs would love to join this historic franchise. Sadly we just have HISTORY with us right now and nothing else..

I certainly am not hoping for mayo to fail personally. It was time for Bill to go and while I would have kept them as the Coach, he was never going to do that so it is what it is. It doesn't mean I'm optimistic about it though.

Like I said though, I'll be the first person in here to say I overreacted and was wrong if it turns out that he is a efficient and good coordinator.

Well he is a choke artist and he's about to lose another super bowl so I mean like, what is there to like?

I love this choice! Tons of experience, a west coast system, former QB, longtime QB coach, and got a ton of offense out of a revolving door of QBs last year including the corpse of Joe Flacco. Worked with Aaron Rodgers during his prime as his QB coach. There’s a lot to like here. Don’t know why people are so damn whiny. If they hired some 32 year old with no experience that would’ve been wrong too.
