Patriots new OC - Alex Van Pelt

Never heard of this guy but I hate the fact that he has been fired from several teams. Hard to feel any optimism but I’ll reserve some judgement.
I'm not crazy about the hire, but devil's advocate: in Buffalo the entire coaching staff was fired, in Tampa the entire coaching staff was fired, in Green Bay he got fired when they basically made McCarthy overhual everything to save himself and then McCarthy got fired the next year, in Cincinatti he came in during the final year of the Marvin Lewis era and got let go with the rest of that regime.

Aside from the Browns (where his offense was objectively solid for the situation they were in), he mostly just was casuality of regime changes

I'm reading here that he doesn't even make the play calls.

So what exactly is he even doing?

It's a really sad world when people are defending higher in a coach from the freaking Browns. Might have the mighty fallen.
You seriously asking what an OC does other than call plays?

-implements the scheme, runs the offensive meetings, comes up with the game plan. Influences game decisions.

There are a lot of offensive head coaches who call plays, including McVay. Most assistants who get hired as OC have no play calling experience.

Van Pelt has called plays extensively in the league with other teams

What I responded to was this:

”That's exactly what we need. A offensive coordinator who didn't even call the plays.”

I’m telling you that‘s no different than going with a guy that has no experience.

I'm not really sure what you're talking about. I never said we should hire somebody who didn't call plays.

This hire is sus and mid at best.

You need not look further than his resume. His resume speaks for itself.

Bob appears to following the Red Sox play book using past success to cover up his cheap ways
Man I'm going to enjoy watching you suffer and whine the entire season. Think about it this way, that picture you have w/ Belichick is worth a lot more money now that he didn't end up on another team. I would recommend you sell now.

You do understand that the Patriots by all metrics are expected to have a pretty bad season right?

I don't think anyone is out here expecting for them to have more than four or five wins next year.

Cleveland’s scheme is pretty good, so bringing something like that over would be great, especially if they draft Jayden Daniels.

Brissett was Cleveland’s starter in 2022 and so should have familiarity with the system.

You need not look any further than what's happening right now to know that Kraft isn't Field of the best coaching.

I've already seen people blame it on Belichick for depleting this team to the point where no one wants to work here but money talks and ******** walks so that's on Kraft.
Well speaking of ******** walking, literally nobody in the league is interested in Bill after how he left this team. Frankly no **** was this going to be a hard sell. No OC wants to come to a bad offense with uncertainty at QB where the best TE is hitting FA, the best RB is hitting FA, and the best OL is hitting free agency. I'm shocked we weren;t a priority.

Get used to the idea that Bill left this team in horrible shape at the end of a failed rebuild and this isn't going to be an immediate turnaround.

Yeah man I get it. It's hard to move on but I suspect that you'll figure a way out.

Nobody's upset that Belichick was fired. That's not to take here.

Belichick the GM needed to go. We have not upgraded our coaching staff if that's what you're saying.
Be serious. Bill wasn’t going to part ways with the full control he had for 20+ years.

They've been having bad seasons bro. You're really surprised nobody is expecting to be blown away by the 30th of 32 teams next year?

And that's why he had to go.

But that has nothing to do with how they've been putting together this team so far this season.

That's exactly what we need. A offensive coordinator who didn't even call the plays.

This is getting more ridiculous by the moment
Come on now, nothing was more ridiculous than having Patricia call plays and Judge as QB coach. LMAO, that was a doozy.

The Patriots have been bad for a while man. I think you're saying exactly what it is I'm saying so I'm not sure what your disagreeing about.

They've been awful and they're going to continue to be awful.

If you choose to be optimistic about the head coach hire and the coordinator hires that's great. I don't need for you to convince me as to why that's the case. I'm not trying to convince you why I believe that they're not so what is it that we're talking about here?

More terrible logic by you. If I'm suffering it's because the team is not good so why would you enjoy that.

That pic with Bill is priceless.
