I’d say I’m sorry that happened to you, but that guy looks more Italian than Jewish. People need to lay off of him. That’s a man acting out over constantly being bullied for his size. He’s the kind of guy that ends up killing himself.

If someone is legit doing 59 in a family residential neighborhood and doesn't get a ticket only because he's a football player, those residents have every right to call for that officer's job.

The police are paid to do a job for a reason - - not just for the cool unis.

I challenge you to lay out the logic that this stop was based on racism without venturing into the realm of conspiracy theory.

Sometimes traffic stops are confusing. A few years back I was pulled over on my way to work in a 45 MPH zone. I'm a white guy driving a common Ram truck in a predominantly white town being pulled over by a white female police officer. Here is the exchange:

Cop: (introduces herself) Where are in a hurry to this morning?
    Me: Why, was I speeding?
Cop: I clocked you at 70 coming down the bridge. (At most I was going 47 down the bridge because I checked my speed)
Me: (in a very confused voice) 70?
Cop: Yes sir, where are you in a hurry too?
Me: Umm, I'm sorry but there is no way I was going 70.
Cop: (in a more forceful, direct tone) Where are you in a hurry to?

I tell her I'm on my way to work and where, and she takes my license. Less than two minutes later she comes back, gets to my window and asks me if I was the manager where I worked. I told her I was the assistant manager and she hands me my license and says, "Thank you, have a nice day." And I can't recall seeing her since.

I also doubt the officer had a legit clocking and that would be the reason for the quick washing once they found out Elandon had enough pull to hire someone to get the clocking legitmacy investigated.

I also don't thin the stop was racist at all. The video shows the car with dark tinted windows all around. There's no way the officer could tell he was black when he started the siren.

Lousy police work does not automatically mean racism.

simple.....since it wasn't speeding, then it was the targeting of an individual, the fact that the individual is Af-Am, it is a distinct possibility......what would not make sense is that it was random for no reason. There's probably a reason you don't see the entire dashcam footage......the proof should be in the footage that precedes what they show

I think the cops knew who he was.....local cops know their areas quite well......what is also possible is that they targeted a celebrity who happened to be black....I guarantee they recognize the car

I have zero proof of anything.......but I smell what I smell and I have a pretty keen sense about these things, and I believe if it was a white guy, it would have been different

How are you so certain it wasn't speeding? It's a common practice for cops sit on the side of the road and visually tell if a car/traffic is going 2x the speed limit. Once the cop follows the driver they calibrate their speed/distance to the car in front and ascertain the actual speed of the vehicle.

Hard to know if the stop was based on racism but seems they might have/would have handled a dumb guy getting out his car in his own driveway a little different had he been white. At least that was my experience. Seems like my officer believed me right away and seems like ER's officer did not give him nor his wife the same benefits. Maybe my officer is just a nice a guy and ER's was a just an ahole but I don't think it's hard to see why someone would think raced played a role.

    59 in a 35. That's not all the time.

There were THREE cops (from at least 2 cruisers) with flashlights in that video surrounding the car.

That doesn't happen to Aunt Ethel when she forgets to turn off her left signal.

If that amount of coverage was warranted, then at least ticket or written warning was.

based on A) there was zero evidence and B) if there was any evidence, the cops would have certainly used it to cover their asses

What evidence do you want? Radar gun readings don't have timestamps.

That means the cop sucks and did not cite the driver for reckless driving/speeding. That isn't evidence which supports ER wasn't speeding.

I just don't understand why some people will jump through hoops to justify police doing something stupid.

I'd be a lot more confident about the officer's report of the non-radar-measured speed if he hadn't lied about the rest of the encounter.

Anyway, yep, anybody going that speed deserves a ticket. But my guess is that the ticket didn't disappear because Roberts was a football player per se. It disappeared because supervisors found that the camera footage contradicted the officer's report of "failing to comply," showed him treating Roberts like a criminal suspect rather than a routine traffic stop, even threatening to arrest his wife--and he turned out to be a prominent citizen who could make some noise about his treatment. So they just wanted the whole thing to go away before it got worse.

    1) He was aggressively speeding. Roberts never denies this in this story told from his perspective.
    2) He got out of the car when pulled over. From a police officer’s perspective, this is universally deemed as an aggressive action and a no no.
    3) His wife comes out of the house and makes a flip remark to the officer about whose “safety” was being protected.
    4) Roberts fails to produce requested documents.

    Four red flags.

Calling into HQ with a reasonably accurate description of the speeder seems...... reasonable.

And let’s not gloss over who has provided the “facts” of the article and framed the narrative.

OT : my neighbor has an extremely dumb kid in his 20’s. The kid just bought a convertible mustang and goes into South Beach every weekend. The kid tells me how his car gets too much attention from Miami cops who keep “harassing” him.
He tells me “ last Saturday cops pulled me over twice and gave me tickets each time.”
    I ask why
He says he was going 15 mph over and later 23 mph over the speed limit.
In his mind his actions were irrelevant and the issue was harassment.
The genius then tells me he’s fighting 4 speeding tickets and is worried about more points affecting his insurance policy which now costs him $650 / month for one car. He says “the insurance company is out to get him”.
Needless to say the genius still lives at home.

So, in your opinion, a racist white cop pulling over a black man simply because he is black let’s said black man off that easily even though he didn’t stop when initially lit up and failed to provide proof of insurance? Doesn’t add up. Where I come from, racist cops enter citations in those situations. See how you’re already beginning to venture into that realm? The simplest explanation is probably the best, and you were on the right track before with incompetence.
